Caught My Eye…

Congratulations on making it to Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:

  • Mark Your Calendars
  • Trump’s Columbus Day Proclamation
  • The All American Halftime Show
  • One More Thing

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

On Tuesday, October 14, Great Falls Rising will be hosting a Great Falls Municipal Candidate Forum. It starts at 10:00 am at the Great Falls Senior Center, which is located at 1004 Central Ave. (Source)

Check your voter registration and don’t forget to vote in the upcoming municipal election on November 5. You don’t want to wake up the day after the election and find out the incumbents who raised our taxes, fees, and rates have been reelected because you did not vote!

TRUMP’S COLUMBUS DAY PROCLAMATION:

President Donald Trump signed a Columbus Day proclamation during a cabinet meeting on Thursday. Trump’s Cabinet and others at the White House broke out into applause Thursday afternoon when Trump signed a proclamation honoring Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. (Source)

The proclamation, in part, states:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 13, 2025, as Columbus Day.

USA Today reported that Trump said, “Columbus Day we’re back, Italians. We love the Italians.”

By the way, Montana recognizes both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day. (Source) It is a Federal holiday and a state holiday in Montana.

THE ALL AMERICAN HALFTIME SHOW:

We can’t agree on much in this country – not even who should perform during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Now, Turning Point USA announced it will present an “All American Halftime Show Celebrating Faith, Family, & Freedom.” (Source)

This may be bigger than the Puppy Bowl!

Turning Point USA will announce the performers at a later date, but I have to believe Lee Greenwood will sing the MAGA theme song, “God Bless the USA.”

In a related issue, I saw this post on social media, and it gave me a chuckle:

The Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show has revealed that an alarming number of Americans don’t know that Puerto Rico is in America.

No kidding – I bet many of them are MAGAs!

Fact – I am a big football fan. I have never watched or not watched the Super Bowl because of the halftime performer.

ONE MORE THING:

If nothing else, some people just teach you how not to be…

## HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ##

  1. I haven’t watched a Super Bowl halftime show since The Who performed. I recognize that people’s taste in music changed but mine hasn’t. I know that for days afterwards they felt the need to explain the meanings behind Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the haltime show last year. You remember, the Eagles against Taylor Swifts boyfriend and his friends.

  2. I am surprised that, upon discovering that Puerto Rico is indeed part of America and the birthplace of a native Spanish speaker, Trump and the MAGAs have not yet flown into a frothing tizzy about them speaking Spanish down there.

Maybe Trump could sign an exec order to try and force them tp speak English instead. Send all the kids to boarding schools to learn how to be real Americans. Stuff like that. Just a matter of time probably.
