Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s common-sense commentary:
- Research Polls
- Executive Order – Antifa
- Rapture Day
- One More Thing
RESEARCH POLLS:
I was asked to participate in a poll from Research Polls on Monday evening. It was via text message, and there was a link to the survey. I love to take polls!
Most questions on the poll were about Austin Knudsen and the race to be the next governor of Montana. I found by taking the poll that Knudsen seems to have a lot of negative baggage that he will need to overcome to be the Republican nominee for Governor.
I am undecided about my choice for Governor, but I doubt Knudsen makes my final cut.
EXECUTIVE ORDER – ANTIFA:
In case you missed it, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order on Monday that designates Antifa as a Terrorist Threat and a Domestic Terrorist Organization. You can read the Executive Order HERE.
Reuters has an “Explainer” about Antifa, and here is part of their report:
Antifa (short for “anti-fascist”) is not an organized political group in the traditional sense. It is a decentralized movement without a clear structure, command hierarchy or leader, according to a 2020 Congressional Research Service. (Source)
CBS News reports:
In general, people who identify as antifa are known not for what they support, but what they oppose: Fascism, nationalism, far-right ideologies, white supremacy, authoritarianism, racism, homophobia and xenophobia. Some antifa activists also denounce capitalism and the government overall.
Trump has been signing many Executive Orders since he took office on January 20. He has issued a little over 200 Executive Orders. (Source) With so many signed, they don’t mean as much.
Maybe when there’s a Democrat as President, he/she will designate members of the MAGA movement as a Terrorist Threat and a Domestic Terrorist Organization.
RAPTURE DAY:
I am on social media a lot throughout the day and could not miss the many posts and comments about September 23 or 24 being Rapture day.
Even the Associated Press (AP) is reporting about it, writing that the date came from an apocalyptic prophecy by a South African man.
For those who don’t understand the Rapture, the AP explains it here:
The Rapture is the belief of some evangelical Christians in a future event where Jesus will return to Earth to take true believers to heaven before a period of great tribulation that culminates in the end of the world.
“Everyone else remains on earth for a tumultuous and troubled period,” said Amy Frykholm, author of “Rapture Culture: Left Behind in Evangelical America.”
“Usually, in this kind of storytelling, the people who are ‘taken up’ in the Rapture are a surprise,” she said, “while many people who were believed to be good Christians are left behind.”
So, if this is my last column, I will see you on the other side!
ONE MORE THING:
With Trump saying, “Don’t take Tylenol,” because he claims there’s a link to it causing autism, the funny memes and hilarious posts on social media kept me laughing all day. Here is one of my favorites:
I took Tylenol when I was autistic and now my son is pregnant. (Source)
