Caught My Eye…

Welcome to Friday! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Charlie Kirk
  • Montana Democrats
  • Great Falls Clinic Legacy Foundation

CHARLIE KIRK:

There is no way that anyone should be happy about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. If you are, then you are a sick person. I could never in a million years write that I was happy about someone being murdered. Kirk was a young man, married, with two very young children.

I heard Kirk speak several times. I have read his postings on social media. I did not agree with him on many things, and he fanned the flames and angered the left. He should not have been murdered for speaking about his beliefs.

Sadly, violence in politics has become the norm in the United States of America. We are better than this. I know I have said, “We are better than this” after many school shootings, but the sad fact is that we ARE NOT better than this. We are failing. The thing that is hard to believe is that we won’t learn a damned thing from this assassination or the next or the next.

Those on the right are honoring Kirk in many ways, and they are being led by President Donald Trump. That’s their right to do so. They lost a bright young leader.

I am happy to see that some of the hatred from people who disliked Kirk or what he stood for is being called out. The Associated Press (AP) has the story HERE. I know some “brave” keyboard warriors in Montana have made some disrespectful posts on social media and are being called out. Good.

Charlie Kirk crisscrossed America and debated people face-to-face. We need more people like him on both sides of the political aisle.

God bless his wife and daughters and all who knew him.

MONTANA DEMOCRATS:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) and Lee Newspapers are reporting that the Montana Democrats are meeting in Livingston this weekend to elect new leaders.

Lee Newspapers is reporting that the positions of chairman, vice chairman, treasurer, secretary and a number of other top roles are all up for consideration for the 100-plus delegates that will elect leadership in Livingston on Sunday.

The MTFP pointed out that the party hasn’t won a statewide race since U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s last win in 2018. Ouch!

I don’t know if the Montana Democrats have anyone on the bench who could win a statewide race. Bueller? Bueller?

I do know they need some energy, and that energy needs to come from the leadership they will elect this weekend.

GREAT FALLS CLINIC LEGACY FOUNDATION:

In a follow-up from earlier in the week, the Montana Free Press (MTFP) is now reporting that the Great Falls Clinic confirmed on Wednesday that the hospital’s foundation no longer employs fundraising director Adrian Swensen. This was after the Montana Free Press reported on past financial crimes and allegations that he promoted a fake fundraising event.

It was also reported that a clinic spokesperson declined to specify whether Adrian Swensen was fired or resigned.

ONE MORE THING:

The first stage of a realistic baking show would be for each contestant to try to open a jammed utensil drawer.

  1. No one should get shot in America from Kirk down to patrons in a bar in Anaconda to far too many innocent little kids in schools. But they do seemingly every day and Kirk was another caught up in that.

Unfortunately we have many who believe the cost of some gun deaths every single year is worth it for their absolutist interpretation of the second amendment. One of the congressmen who got shot in the basketball game called it, “The price of freedom”. So it will continue.

Thoughts and prayers for Kirk’s wife and kids.
