The Monday Memo

Thanks for starting your week here! These are the topics for today’s column:

  • NorthWestern Energy
  • ABC News & Terry Moran
  • Liberate Los Angeles
  • Kilmar Abrego Garcia
  • One More Thing

NORTHWESTERN ENERGY:

One of the phrases I thought about when I read about another rate increase from NorthWestern Energy was “we’re getting hosed.”  That basically means we’re being cheated, tricked, or taken advantage of.

If it’s not an energy rate increase, then it’s the Great Falls City Commission raising our residential and commercial water, sewer, and storm drain utility services by 27%. Or, the city commission is increasing the sanitation rate.

Gas in Montana is around $3.19 per gallon, no matter how many times our President lies about it being $1.98.

So when I saw two articles (HERE & HERE) informing me that NorthWestern Energy is hosing us with another rate increase, I just laughed. That’s about the only thing left to do besides moving off-grid.

Our all-Republican Montana Public Service Commission is supposed to help the consumers. That’s not happening.

The all-Republican way of running Montana is not working out too well for me. What about you?

ABC NEWS & TERRY MORAN:

The Hill and other sources reported that ABC News on Sunday suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran after he sharply criticized President Trump and his top aide, Stephen Miller, in a social media post earlier that day.

So, what did Moran write? Here it is:

The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism.

Yes, he is one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy.

But that’s not what’s interesting about Miller.

It’s not brains. It’s bile.

Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater.

You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.

Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.

I agree with what Moran wrote 100%. But, as a senior national correspondent, he should not be airing his opinion about the people he covers. Leave that part to the talking heads on cable news at night and for the opinion pages.

What Moran did was give the MAGAs more ammo to attack the “left-wing media.” I imagine it’s frustrating to cover a man like Trump, who has no manners and spews hatred and lies every day. Sometimes you just need to go off, but you can’t. As they say, you have to keep your powder dry. Moran is ruined, and it was his own doing.

LIBERATE LOS ANGELES:

President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to help quell the protests in Los Angeles. The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that tensions were high after a series of sweeps by immigration authorities and that officials are using tear gas, flash-bang explosives, and pepper balls.

The AP also reported that in a signal of the administration’s aggressive approach, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth threatened to deploy the U.S. military.

On social media, Trump wrote:

A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals.  Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve. I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots. Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

As I have said many times, if you are in this country illegally, you have already broken the law. You should leave. If you are arrested and deported, you won’t get back in. I am all for peaceful protests. I am praying for Los Angeles.

KILMAR ABREGO GARCIA:

In case you missed the 180 done by the Trump Administration, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man whom the Trump administration mistakenly deported to El Salvador—but repeatedly insisted would not be brought back—has returned to U.S. after all after the Trump administration indicted him on charges of transporting undocumented immigrants, after repeatedly claiming without evidence he belonged to gang MS-13. (Source)

I don’t know if the charges will stick, but at least he will get his day in court.

 ONE MORE THING:

My electricity bill just came today, and I believe I got charged for the sunlight, moonlight, streetlight, the light of the Holy Spirit, and the light at the end of the tunnel. (Source)

  1. Not entirely sure those are really “Migrant riots” like Trump claims. Pictures of the crowds show a pretty disparate group of demonstators, and the LA police chief claimed much of the more serious trouble has been caused by “professional left-wing anarchist agitators”.

    • I think “migrant” is too big a word for Trump to understand. -JmB
