Caught My Eye…

Congrats on making it to Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:

  • Municipal Election
  • MetraPark – Detention Camp
  • Football, Football, Football
  • One More Thing

MUNICIPAL ELECTION:

I happened to see that Great Falls City Commissioner Joe McKenney announced that he was running for re-election.  In his Facebook post, McKenney stated:

🚨 Big News! 🚨

I am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election to the city commission.

As a Navy veteran, entrepreneur, and proven leader in public service, I have spent my career delivering actual results for our community. Together, we have made progress, but there is more to do.

✅ More housing

✅ Safer neighborhoods

✅ Stronger economic growth & prosperity

With your support, we will keep building a bold and brighter future for everyone. Let us finish what we started!

I also saw that Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon endorsed McKenney. The MAGAs have to stick together.

I mentioned this before, but I think people in Great Falls are sick of seeing their taxes and fees increased. If someone runs for commission and spends a little money telling voters they will vote NO on anything that increases taxes and/or fees, they would probably have a great chance to win.

I remember when Republicans didn’t support tax increases. I will have a hard time voting for anyone who took money from our public library.

METRAPARK – DETENTION CAMP:

MTN News is reporting that Yellowstone County commissioners (Billings) are offering the use of MetraPark to detain illegal immigrants caught in the region. MTN says that MetraPark is 189 acres, with an arena containing a large commercial kitchen, an expo center and a pavilion, commissioners wrote, some of which could be repurposed to house inmates. MTN also reported that the three-member board of commissioners, all Republicans, said they support Trump’s hard stance at the border, noting that violence and drug trafficking in Montana can be traced to the southern border.

How MAGA of them.

What about offering the use of the facility by homeless people so they can get a hot meal and get out of the cold?

If there’s a concert there, do the detainees get in for free?

FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL:

Sadly, football is winding down. There are three NFL games left. I am at a loss with all the spare time I have.

Earlier this week, Ohio State beat Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff National Championship. (Box Score) The game was not that close after the first quarter. I applaud the NCAA for expanding the playoffs to 12 teams in major college football. They need to tweak the seeding a little. Some teams made the playoffs that probably shouldn’t have. We’ll see if they make some changes.

As for the NFL, we have the AFC/NFC Championships on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders play the Philadelphia Eagles at 1:00 p.m. (MT Time). The game is on Fox. (Source)

My Kansas City Chiefs host the Buffalo Bills at 4:30 p.m. (MT Time). The game is on CBS. (Source)

It seems football fans are getting fatigued with my Chiefs winning. There is a lot of fake news and talk of the officials favoring my Chiefs. Most of it is just jealousy. I usually use the lyrics to a song that is performed by a Chiefs fan (Taylor Swift) to get back at the haters:

And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate

Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake

I shake it off, I shake it off

The Chiefs fans are not tired of winning! I don’t know how long this run by the Chiefs will last, but since I have been a fan since the early 1960s, I think we deserve a few great seasons.

I do realize that it will end sometime. I thought last year was it. I was wrong.

Last year the Chiefs had to play a divisional game in Buffalo and won it. Then they had to play the Ravens in Baltimore and won. This season, they had the best record in the AFC, so they get to play the AFC Championship at home. I like their chances.

ONE MORE THING:

From social media…

It’s probably just me, but I’m more worried about convicted police batterers and seditionists on the streets than I am about brown farm workers and roofers without papers.

  1. Off topic but a Mississippi Democratic legislator introduced a pretty funny “good for the goose good for the gander” troll bill in protest of all the anti-woman bills and woman control the MAGA types keep pushing like they are some sort of Taliban.

“The bill, titled the “Contraception Begins at Erection Act,” would make it unlawful for “a person to discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo.” It includes exceptions for sperm donation and using contraception to prevent fertilization.”

The real surprise is some MAGA didn’t come up with this first. Sort of like that classic Monty Python song satirizing Catholic Church teachings, “Every Sperm is Sacred”.

    • So out of those 538 they scooped up, 8 or 9 were either simply suspected of something or were said to be low level sex criminals like probably statutory rape with someone they knew. About 1.5% of the total.

Somewhat lower than what a certain blowhard has been telling us was the vast majority of the immigrants, desperate and vicious bad hombres fresh out of the worst prisons in the world, convicted of committing the most heinous crimes. Crimes like we never even heard of.

So when do they intend to go out there and grab up that other 98.5% namely “those who pose the greatest threat to public safety” that Tubby has been yammering about, who are supposedly out there terrorizing entire cities? Grabbing up guys who are actively working construction and probably paying taxes to boot isn’t likely to be making anyone much safer.

  2. When Tryon first ran for commissioner he said he would not support tax hikes, so we know exactly what that sort of promise means – hot air.

Sweet, sweet gesture by the Yellowstone commissioners but there will be no immediate need to worry whether or not immigration detainees would need Metra concert tix. Trump’s immigration raids won’t come to red states for a long, long time. If ever. He doesn’t want to screw up the workforce of employers and economy of states that supported him.

    Jackie from above.

Great idea, but the MAGAs would say that you’re espousing the samep anti-trump satanic anti-Christian beliefs not rooted in the actual trump Bible. In other words, you’re not a real American and probably should be deported. In fact, if they have their way, you might eventually end up in Metra yourself with the other deportees!

The comments following the article are great too. Seems not everyone is on board the trump train. As a backslid Christian myself, I’m appalled at these fascists. Who could have imagined it would come to this?
