It’s Friday and that means it is time for Caught My Eye! Here are the topics for today’s column:

HALF-STAFF (UPDATE):

Thursday I saw that Montana Governor Greg Gianforte ordered flags at the Montana State Capitol and state buildings be raised to full-staff on January 20 for President Trump’s inauguration (Source). After January 20, they will return to half-staff for the remainder of the 30 days to honor former President Jimmy Carter. 

President-elect Donald Trump had complained about the flags being flown at half-staff during his inauguration. Trump posted the following on social media:

The Democrats are all “giddy” about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at “half mast” during my Inauguration. They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves.

The only person thinking about themselves is Donald Trump. He acts like a toddler.

Republicans like Gianforte are so afraid of pissing off Trump that they are willing to violate the U.S. Flag Code to appease him. Gianforte is a coward. 

Shame on you, Gianforte, shame on you. 

TRUMP DAY 1 PROMISES:

The Associated Press (AP) has compiled a list of the campaign promises President-Elect Donald Trump promised to do on his first day in office. The AP reports that Trump said, “Your head will spin when you see what’s going to happen.”

According to Trump, he will launch the biggest deportation in history. He will close the border. Trump promised to end automatic citizenship for everyone born in the U.S., known as birthright citizenship. Trump will also issue some pardons to the January 6 insurrectionists. 

He also said he would end the Ukraine/Russia war.

TIKTOK BAN:

As many of you know, I am a fan of TikTok. I use it every day. I don’t make money from it, but I know many people who do. Around 170 million people in the USA use TikTok. 

Some people are going to another app called “RedNote” if TikTok is banned. RedNote is also a Chinese app. (Source)

Late Thursday, the Associated Press (AP) reported that President Joe Biden won’t enforce a ban on the social media app TikTok that is set to take effect a day before he leaves office on Monday, a U.S. official said Thursday, leaving its fate in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump should stop the ban on TikTok in the USA. 

PLAYOFF/CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND:

There are four NFL playoff games this weekend. On Monday we have the College Football National Championship!  

Is this a great country or what?

My Kansas City Chiefs are going for a Super Bowl three-peat. They host the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional playoff game Saturday afternoon. The game will be shown on ABC/ESPN. It starts at 2:30 p.m. in Montana. 

That night the Detroit Lions host the Washington Commanders. That game starts at 6:00 p.m. in Montana and will be shown on FOX. 

On Sunday the Philadelphia Eagles host the Los Angeles Rams. That game starts at 1:00 p.m. here in Montana and will be shown on NBC. 

Later Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens play at the Buffalo Bills. The game starts at 4:30 p.m. here in Montana. CBS has the game.

The College Football National Championship game has Ohio State and Notre Dame squaring off Monday night. The game starts at 5:30 here in Montana and will be shown on ESPN. (Source)

  1. This article nails it. Why trans people, especially since they make up nearly zero percent of the population? It’s all by design, right from the fascist playbook. I guess the thing that amazes me is that anybody at all could get worked up enough to hate a group of people that barely exists. Brilliant technique borrowed straight from Hitler who also went after the trans folks first. In fact, burned their entire scholarly research library. It’s the famous picture. Jews came later.

  2. Trump’s plan to end the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine is the same plan Chamberlain had for peace in our time.

    • And to go along with your comment, a little history lesson by way of a brilliant movie. It’s free with a few commercials. The world owes a huge debt of gratitude to Churchill. And now the world trembles as we have elected a fascist buffoon. Who will be our Churchill? He was the only one who recognized Hitler for what he was and had the courage to fight for what was essentially a lost cause. I doubt that half staff Greg has nothing but boot licking to defend against trump!

      This is a movie not to be missed, especially now.

      • As a former military man myself the disrespect shown by these MAGAs for flag etiquette and military tradition makes me incensed. B*stards! Before they claim to be flag wavers, they should be forced to take a course on respect for flag etiquette and military tradition. Wonder how many guys fought and died for a Trump flag?

      • All those poor MAGAs who made expensive plane and hotel and so on reservations to see the coronation of His Royal Tubbiness on Monday in person … screwed. Supposed to be a coolish 25 degrees and light winds so Tubby is moving the ceremony inside.

        JFK took his oath outside in very brisk 22 degree weather, but much like when Tubby wimped out of the D-Day ceremony in France because there was a little rain, this guy just isn’t all that tough. Plus doesn’t want to look out and see a puny crowd.

      • A who’s who of the world’s nastiest fascists will be attending Trump’s coronation. Very strange, and doesn’t bode well for democracy around the world and here. Most MAGAs have no idea what they’ve done. Having no understanding of fascism, they’re clueless. Not sure how they think it will improve their lives. Maybe Musk has promised to send them to Mars as a colony for white Europeans with no gays or transgenders! That’s about as believable as trump being a good Christian! They’re that simple!
