Tuesday’s Quick Hits

It’s Tuesday, July 18, and here are the topics that I am providing commentary about today:

  • Rancher Taxes
  • Public Service Announcements
  • Big Bucks
  • NFL Training Camp 2023

RANCHER TAXES:

It seems the screw-ups are continuing to pile up for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy. The Daily Beast has a story posted that is titled, “He’s Running for Senate as a Montana Rancher. He’s Skipped Out on the Rancher Taxes.”

The Daily Beast reports:

Recently, the liberal group American Bridge filed an open records request with the Department of Revenue, asking how many animals Sheehy’s ranch reported to the government since they purchased the property in 2019.
A department official replied that Sheehy, his business partners, and Little Belt Cattle Company had never reported any livestock with the government, according to a copy of the email shared with The Daily Beast.

According to the story, a spokesperson for Sheehy said that “not filing the report was an oversight, which is being fixed.”

It was reported that the spokesperson added, “Democrat operatives are working overtime to try and dig-up dirt and make ridiculous claims with the hope of smearing Tim Sheehy, a successful businessman and decorated combat veteran.”

No shit. It appears the “Democrat operatives” work is paying off. No matter what the spokesperson says, the bottom line is stuff like not paying “rancher taxes” falls on Sheehy. It is low fruit by anyone doing opposition research.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

It’s the season of Public Service Announcements (PSA) from elected officials. Public officials address an important issue which also allows them to appear on camera at taxpayer expense. That helps them with name recognition for their next election. It is legal. I don’t think it should be legal the last two years before an election.

I’ve seen a PSA from Troy Downing, who is the Montana State Auditor. He’s talking about flood insurance. Just recently, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen took time out from filing lawsuits against the Biden Administration to do a PSA to “To Combat Human Trafficking In Montana.

These PSAs provided valuable information that would have been good for Montanans to hear even if Downing and Knudsen hadn’t appeared in them.

Check out the press release from Knudsen promoting the PSA HERE. You can see Downing’s PSA HERE.

BIG BUCKS:

The Powerball lottery jackpot is now $1 billion. The next drawing is Wednesday evening. (Source)

The Mega Millions jackpot is now $640 million. The next drawing is tonight (Tuesday). (Source)

NFL TRAINING CAMP 2023:

I am ready, are you? NFL teams are getting ready for training camps with some rookies reporting today (July 18). The veterans are reporting a few days later. I think the latest training camp opens for all players is July 26. (Source)

Preseason games start August 3 with the Hall of Fame game (Jets v. Browns).

The regular season begins on Thursday, September 7, with my Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.
