Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Quote for the Day…

Words are like keys – if you choose them right, they can open any heart and shut any mouth. -Unknown

In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:

  • Great Replacement Theory
  • The Big Lie
  • Graham- Riots In The Streets
  • One More Thing

GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY:

I happened to watch Vice News on Showtime Sunday night and they had a segment about the Great Replacement Theory.

I had only heard a little about it, but it is alarming.

It is one of those far-right conspiracies where many from the MAGA crowd believe that welcoming immigration policies — particularly those impacting nonwhite immigrants — are part of a plot designed to undermine or “replace” the political power and culture of white people living in Western countries. (Source)

The conspiracy believers think that “non-white” people will mostly vote for Democrats. Even Tucker Carlson from Fox News fame promoted it with PolitiFact reporting that a New York Times investigation identified more than 400 episodes of Carlson’s show in which he pushed core tenets of the conspiracy theory.

If you subscribe the Showtime, please check out the show. It’s Season 3/Episode 13.

The Vice News segment showed just how ignorant some MAGA folks are in promoting this racist conspiracy. One person even went so far as to say “Heil Hitler” during the interview.

THE BIG LIE:

I caught the following in my Twitter feed, and I was shocked at how dumb some people can be:

In poll after poll, about 70% of Republicans say they don’t think Joe Biden is the legitimate winner of the 2020 election.

Donald Trump continues to spread the big lie and his uneducated followers believe him.

When candidates come to your door this campaign season, ask them if they think Joe Biden is the legitimate winner of the 2020 election. Then vote accordingly.

GRAHAM- RIOTS IN THE STREETS:

Just as I used to have a lot of respect for Rudy Giuliani I also once had a lot of respect for U.S. Senator Lindsay Graham.

After the following remarks from Graham, I have even less respect:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday warned of “riots in the streets” if former President Trump is prosecuted for his handling of classified materials found when the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago home.
“If there’s a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information, after the Clinton debacle … there’ll be riots in the streets,” Graham told former South Carolina congressman Trey Gowdy, who now hosts Fox News’s “Sunday Night in America.”

Maybe in the MAGA world, Graham is secretly telling the MAGAs to get ready for a civil war. I doubt that Graham’s remarks will have any impact on the U.S., Department of Justice.

ONE MORE THING:

Donald Trump announced this week that he should be declared the President (nearly 2 years after the election) or there should immediately be a new election.

Great googly moogly….

  1. OT today but of past blog interest – The petition effort to put marijuana de-legalization on the Cascade County ballot this Fall came up about 6,000 signatures short of the 7,500 needed.

  2. If it is okay for Hillary to whine she would have won in 2016 if not for FBI director Comey’s last minute announcement about finding another computer with emails on it, it’s okay for Trump to whine that he would have won if the FBI hadn’t warned Facebook and other social media to BOLO for foreign disinformation before 2020. Either way, it’s just whining sorry excuses, and makes absolutely no difference. They were both rejected by voters. Lost. Losers.

  3. They’ve become the party of the absurd. MAGAs. Painful to read about them, not enough time to refute them, impossible to debate them. Their only strategy is to waste everyone’s time, thereby overwhelming the political process. There is a historical precedent. How many angels can dance on the head of a pin, Montana style: https://dailymontanan.com/2022/08/29/state-aclu-gear-up-for-fight-over-changing-montana-birth-certificates/

    Who really gives two sh*ts?

I thought that we were smarter than this.

  4. Since Trump believes he won in 2020, he must also believe he is now serving his second term. By that logic, he is ineligible to run in 2024.
