BREAKING: Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has ended constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years in a decision by its conservative majority to overturn Roe v. Wade. Friday’s outcome is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.

The decision, unthinkable just a few years ago, was the culmination of decades of efforts by abortion opponents, made possible by an emboldened right side of the court that has been fortified by three appointees of former President Donald Trump.

  1. From tweets I learned that Canada has publicly funded abortion at any stage of pregnancy. No laws what so ever or restrictions.

    • Mary – That is true. It’s interesting how they handled it. – JmB

  2. Governor Gianforte just now states he’s in talks with legislative leaders regarding what to do regarding abortion. Of course he is going to call a special session to outlaw abortion in Montana to satisfy the Mega crowd. But it runs up against a ruling of Montana Supreme Court that protects abortion in Montana by privacy rights under the Montana Constitution. So I guess the Montana GOP will need to get rid of that “rag” as some far right GOP call it. I haven’t heard any talk of a special session for the recent 500 year flood problems or issues at State Hospital and Prison.

    • Dennis – I would guess a special session in Montana would be the next move – to protect life. 😎
I’m thinking this is just the beginning.
      Thanks, JmB

    • Now it becomes even more clear why the radical Republican-controlled legislature has set its sights on the Judiciary. The change in the manner of appointing District Court Judges, the attacks on the Supreme Court regarding their internal discussions on proposed legislation, the suit by AG Knudson to overturn MAZURECK v. ARMSTRONG, actively soliciting and promoting candidate Brown for the Supreme Court and the attacks on our MT Constitution are all part of their plan to have a minority rule installed in Montana.
They’ve supported initiatives that now allow ANYONE to travel ANYWHERE in Montana for ANY PURPOSE with an arsenal of guns and ammunition without any potential restriction by law enforcement and again AG Knudson is suing to get “bump stocks” leglized across the nation.
We have multimillionaires in Montana’s Governor’s office, the US Senate, the House of Representatives and the Secretary Of State’s office. Even our Lt. Governor is a card-carrying member of the Federalist Society that has so compromised the US Supreme Court.
This fall’s judicial races will be more imprtant than anytime in our history.
Unfortunately, a great number of Montanans are gleefully supporting this activity. Will they be shocked when the find out “they” are responsible for the result?
Now is the time to scrutinize the actions of the radical Republicans in Montana before it is all too late.

      • OLD – Elections have consequences. That’s never been more apparent. Thanks, JmB

  3. I’m sure Daines and Rosendale are ecstatic that THEIR Supreme Court just hit the trifecta. Now police can beat a confession out of a suspect without a lawyer, a wife-beater’s right is protected to own the gun he will shoot his wife with, and the 14 year-old daughter he impregnated won’t have access to a doctor who might save her life. I expect they’re eagerly looking forward to increased funding from the only constituents they seem to care about. Welcome back to the 19th century. I’m offering odds that one or both will soon be entering a bill to repeal the 13th, 14th, and19th Amendments.

  4. Three decisions – overturn a sensible NY state law on gun carry, weaken Miranda rights, overturn Roe. That’s what happens when the Electoral College installs a fascist with a minority of the popular vote.

  5. Hold on to you hats. It gets worse. These christofascists are insane. Because I worked closely with the Catholic Church, I saw this coming some thirty years ago and tried to warn people. Catholic teachings combined with fundamentalism is a marriage made in hell! At least all their cards are on the table now. Or are they? Maybe they’ll take a look at slavery next!
