Quote for the Day…
It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not. ― Denis Waitley
Caught My Eye (CME) is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Armed Forces Day 2022
- More Reefer Madness
- Elsie Arntzen
- Unvaccinated Soldiers
- Dear Abby
ARMED FORCES DAY 2022:
Armed Forces Day 2022 will be celebrated this Saturday, May 21st. This holiday pays tribute to men and women who serve across all six branches in the United States military. (Source)
Thank you to all who are serving our country!
MORE REEFER MADNESS:
The Great Falls Tribune is reporting that the city of Great Falls is planning on sending decisions over whether to allow adult-use marijuana sales within city limits as well as whether to add an additional municipal court judge to help mitigate increasing caseloads to the public this November.
The Tribune also reported that as it relates to the adult-use marijuana sales, City Attorney Jeff Hindoien said that staff will work to bring a regulatory framework for operative businesses within city limits so that the city is prepared in the event the voters decide they want to authorize sales.
Someone should tell the city commissioners and their attorney that we already voted to allow recreational marijuana in Cascade County by a vote of 54%-46%. That should be game, set, and match.
If we are going to vote on things, let’s put casinos on the ballot in the city. Maybe we can eliminate a few casinos and replace them with pot shops…

ELSIE ARNTZEN:
It is very apparent that Republicans in Montana hate public education.
The latest from Arntzen is that she is proposing changes for counselors, librarians, arts, and music in the state. She wants to change the ratio of counselors and librarians per student.
She appointed a task force and then did not pay much if any attention to their proposals.
If Montana eliminates or curtails music and fine arts from schools the wealthier families will be able to afford private lessons. The poorer families will not. The gap between rich and poorer grows. It’s a classic example of the “Matthew Principle or Effect.”
The Montana Democrats should start looking for a strong candidate to run for the Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2024 and hopefully repair all the damage that was done by Arntzen and her MAGA crew.

UNVACCINATED SOLDIERS:
MTN News is reporting that the U.S. Army has set a deadline of June 30, 2022, for all of its service members to get vaccinated against COVID. Now, the Montana National Guard is preparing for what could come next for its members who’ve decided not to get the vaccine.
What could come next? I would kick their asses out!
MTN also shared a statement from Maj. Gen. John “Pete” Hronek, Montana’s adjutant general and commander of the Montana National Guard.
“When we raised our right hands and joined the Montana National Guard, we swore to protect—protect each other, our communities, our state, and our nation,” he said. “We have gone to war, we have fought fires and winter storms, and now it is time to protect by being vaccinated.”
Amen to that.

DEAR ABBY:
Sometimes the local paper does not carry “Dear Abby” so I went looking for it on the internet. I found a site that you can subscribe to, and it is delivered to your inbox every morning (by around 6:00 am in Montana).
Go to this site and scroll down on the left side to the subscribe section, then add your email and hit subscribe!
Mary has some choice words for the likes of Elsie. BTW, sometimes it’s harder than heck to interpret exactly what Elsie is trying to say. I can get by in three languages, but after reading Elsie carefully three or four times, it still seems like total MAGA gibberish.
