Quote for the Day…
Be selective in your battles sometimes peace is better than being right. ― Ritu Ghatourey
Caught My Eye (CME) is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Election Integrity Presentation
- Tim McGonigal
- Prepare Yourself
- Oh Crap!
- Reading Assignments
ELECTION INTEGRITY PRESENTATION:
There are many things our elected officials should be concentrating on, and election integrity is not one of them.
The Great Falls Tribune reported that the Cascade County commission chambers were overflowing Monday afternoon with attendees for an “Election Integrity Presentation” put on by local resident and concerned citizen Lewis Zanto.
One of the local Republican county commissioners said most of the attendees were Republicans. I think the people who attended this event can better be described as dumbasses and the most gullible of the gullible. I hope someone was selling tinfoil hats to the attendees.
Trump lost the election. Biden won. Get over it and try harder next time.
Read the complete report from the Tribune HERE.
TIM MCGONIGAL:
Tim McGonigal is an anchor for the evening news on the local MTN News station in Great Falls.
McGonigal is covering (or promoting) three days of Governor Greg Gianforte’s 56 county tour of Montana. Some folks on Twitter were not happy with his coverage and/or not being able to comment on his posts via Twitter.
McGonigal tweeted:
Why didn’t anyone get this bent out of shape when I went to China with Bullock? I don’t see what the big deal is but apparently my career hinges on the next three days.
Personally, I don’t think your career hinges on it; you are an anchor in Great Falls, Montana – MONTANA! I would suggest that you practice reading the teleprompter. That skill seems to be lacking.
McGonigal did not help his cause by telling folks to “chill out” and calling those who commented “uptight.”
I responded to his tweet by saying, “Be a reporter, not a supporter.”
Tim may want to lay low for a few days…
PREPARE YOURSELF:
It’s an election year with the primaries and general election coming up. You need to be prepared by following The Western Word on Twitter @TheWesternWord, on Facebook by clicking HERE, or by subscribing to The Western Word blog (on the upper right side of the screen) so you’ll get my columns first.
If you follow me on Twitter, I will follow you back!
OH CRAP!
The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that a woman who accidentally dropped her cellphone into the hole of an outhouse in a national forest and fell in while trying to retrieve it had to be rescued by firefighters in Washington state. It was also reported by the AP that the lady disassembled the toilet seat and used dog leashes to try and get the phone and eventually used the leashes to tie herself off as she reached for it. That effort failed and she fell into the toilet headfirst.
Headfirst…
READING ASSIGNMENTS:
Here are some articles you should read…
Bozeman Daily Chronicle – Montana State University students, staff oppose naming building Gianforte Hall
Maybe they could call it “Slugger Hall.”
Lee Newspapers – TV ads direct viewers to incorrect voting information
It seems the Montana Secretary of State’s office is error-prone.
I see G.F. Commissioner Tryon’s contribution to The Great McGonigal Twitter Kerfluffle was to launch an attack on the “woke mob”. And just like one would expect whenever he is involved, nobody had written anything the least bit “woke” in that Twitter exchange. Par for the course for that guy. Unless Tryon is now characterizing calls for transparency and accountability and factual reporting as “woke”.
Also enjoyed the Cascade County commissioners’ comments in the Trib story expressing surprise that hardly anyone bothered to show up for the demonstration of accuracy of the ballot counting machines on Tuesday after all the hue and cry about election integrity from a big crowd of Republicans on Monday. One would almost be forced to conclude that those people raising all the election integrity stink on Monday really don’t want to be troubled by actual facts and/or elections operations transparency.
Very entertaining topics today.
Terry- Thanks. I thought Tryon was against the liberal media. Haha.
As for the test, I was also surprised the tinfoil hat folks didn’t show up for the test count.
Thanks for your comments, JmB
Caught the McGonigal segment last night and wondered what all the brouhaha was about. It was no more than the usual local Montana TV fluff, up there with stories about lost dogs that find their way home from Pocatello etc. The only difference from dog stories is that the dogs are genuine while this 56 counties thing is an obvious Gianforte publicity stunt. And everyone loves dogs. Hard to see what’s getting people excited. Much less motivated to spend time on subsequent installments.
Terry – I saw it, too. I am not that impressed. Thanks, JmB
