Quote for the Day…
When you’re happy, you enjoy the music but when you’re sad, you understand the lyrics. ― Frank Ocean
Caught My Eye (CME) is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Daines in Ukraine
- Grand Rapids Police Shooting
- Biden & Bird Poop
- Montana Auto Museum
DAINES IN UKRAINE:
Of all the elected officials that I would send to Ukraine, U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) would be near the bottom of my list.
Nonetheless, Daines visited Ukraine this week. He reaped the rewards of getting some publicity out of it.
Daines has no experience in foreign relations. He has no committee assignments that deal with foreign relations or even armed services. He was never in the military, so he can’t look at the war from that angle.
Daines is best known for being a publicity seeker.
But here we are – The Hill reported that Montana Sen. Steve Daines (R) and Ukrainian-American Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) this week became the first American lawmakers to travel to Ukraine in the aftermath of the Russian invasion.
People across the fruited plains are asking, “Who?”
GRAND RAPIDS POLICE SHOOTING:
The Detroit Free Press reported a white police officer killing a Black man in Grand Rapids garnered national attention Wednesday, as police released footage of the officer shooting 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya in the head.
I’ve watched all the footage that was posted on the Free Press website.
It is always sad when a person loses their life in this manner. It makes it especially difficult when the person is young.
Lyoya was the driver of a car pulled over because the license plate did not match the vehicle. The police officer told Lyoya to stay in the car. He did not comply. Lyoya did not provide a license as asked. He resisted arrest and was told to stop. He did not. He ran and was caught. The officer tried to taser him twice and due to the struggle, he missed. He then shot him after about two minutes of struggling.
Although the officer’s body camera quit working, other cameras caught the episode on video. I think they have good video evidence to use if this goes to trial.
As I have said before in other incidents like this, the shooting might not have happened if the person, in this case, Lyoya, would have obeyed the officer’s commands from the start.
We need to learn how to obey authority again in America.

BIDEN & BIRD POOP:
The ant-Biden crowd got a kick of posting information about a bird pooping on the President when he was in Iowa.
It did not happen according to the Des Moines Register:
And now, according to some reports, even the birds in Hawkeye State have expressed their disappointment. A video of something falling on Biden’s lapel at an Iowa ethanol plant Tuesday was widely characterized on the internet as bird poop.
But it wasn’t a “feathered friend” relieving itself as characterized by the Daily Mail, a British tabloid. While there were birds in the “giant barn” where Biden spoke, according to a Des Moines Register photographer who was in the event in Menlo, Iowa, the substance that stained Biden’s jacket was in fact distillers grains.
As I have said many times, it is ok not to like Biden, Trump, Clinton, Obama, etc., but it makes you look like an idiot when you post information that is not true.

MONTANA AUTO MUSEUM:
I have nothing against classic cars. I owned a 68 Chevelle SS 396 at one time. I have a place in my Pinterest account where I save photos of Chevelles.
This week my mother received a postcard from the Montana Auto Museum wanting her to take part in their annual classic car raffle. It was sent to my address.
The problem is that my mother has been dead since January 2007. Dead!
Another problem is that she never lived at my address. One other problem is that she never lived in Montana.
I think someone needs to check their mailing lists…
“We need to learn how to obey authority again in America.”
Like when Trumpsky just goes on and on to maintain his stranglehold on the “authority” of the White House? Like when the far-right demagogues in the GOP, in the state and the entire country, are legislating discrimination and voter suppression?
The case in point probably reflects barely legitimate use of lethal force, but why is such lethal force so overwhelmingly directed against minorities? Do you suppose people might find less willingness to “obey” authority when they find less reason to “respect” it?
Fred – no, it’s not “like” the Trump authority. I just believe that people have lost respect for authority. Just because some in authority break the rules does not mean that I should disobey the next police officer that pulls me over.
In this case, I imagine the use of force would have quickly ended if the man had stopped resisting.
I have an open mind and if the officer broke the rules, he should suffer the consequences.
Thanks for your comments. -JmB
Cub reporter Steve Daines confirms in person what the MSM has been reporting about the Ukraine war all along. Maybe he can tell Moscow Matt.
Wonder if ol’ moscow Matt still thinks the border is our greatest issue?

Larry – Since Rosendale knows very little about the military or nukes, I doubt he realizes the gravity. Thanks, JmB
Terry – “cub reporter” – love it!
Thanks, JmB
The bird poop story was front and center at the 6 am
KTVQ News this morning. The weather man and news reader had a fun time talking about birds flying around at the Billings Walmart and birds pooping on cars. No wonder I seldom watch the program.
Bob – Thanks. I guess their political leanings showed! Haha. Thanks, JmB
