Quote for the Day…
Not knowing the truth doesn’t make you ignorant. Not wanting to know the truth is what makes you ignorant. – Unknown
In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:
- Steve Daines
- Daylight Saving Time
- Danger, Danger
- The Western Word Poll
STEVE DAINES:
After reading a column from Politico, it did not take me long to realize that U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) has been on a mission for the last few months. His social media posts have been done nothing but attack the Biden administration and Democrats while offering very few solutions to our problems.
Daines is falling well short of being a statesman.
Politico reported that Daines is aiming to lead the GOP’s campaign arm for the 2024 campaign, which will put him in the unusual position of trying to topple his own state’s senior senator.
In other words, Daines wants to chair the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). This is the committee that can send a staffer to your town with a credit card, and they go wild in putting on an event to elect a Republican. I’ve heard that many of those staffers are snotty-nosed children of rich donors who want their kids to be involved in politics.
If he does run the NRSC, Daines may win some senate seats in 2024, but he won’t beat Jon Tester unless Tester decides to retire. Montanans like independents and moderates. Tester has handled Burns, Rehberg, and Rosendale. The Trump team spent millions to beat him. They failed. Tester would beat Daines if they ever faced each other. Tester would easily beat Greg Gianforte.
Someone in Daines’ camp is cheering him on and making him think he is a big shot. As a former Republican and now an independent, I know that many of Daines’ people are cast-offs (failures) who could not land a job for legitimate Republicans.
One thing for Daines and company to remember is what goes around comes around. Daines is not as well-liked as he thinks. I hear stuff every month about his transgressions.
You can read the complete report from Politico HERE.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME:
First, if you call it Daylight “Savings” Time you should bow out of this argument. It’s called “Saving” time, not “Savings” time.
The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that the Senate unanimously approved a measure Tuesday that would make daylight saving time permanent across the United States next year. The bipartisan bill named the Sunshine Protection Act would ensure Americans would no longer have to change their clocks twice a year. But the bill still needs approval from the House, and the signature of President Joe Biden, to become law.
Wow, could this happen? What will I do with that hour I save?
I actually like getting up at 2:00 am twice a year to change my clocks. Merica!
DANGER, DANGER:
The other day I was talking to some friends, and we discussed the political situation in the USA.
I said, “It’s getting dangerous out there.”
I advised these folks that I would not place a sign in my yard or a sign on my vehicle because there are wackos out there that might try to harm you if you did. I said, “Don’t donate any amount to anyone.”
Yes, the wackos come from both sides.
I also advised my friends not to post their support for candidates on social media. I think I said, “Stay the %^&$ out of politics except to vote.”
About all we are left to do is just vote. It’s the safest way to get your point across.
Of course, here at the worldwide headquarters of The Western Word, we are secure in an underground bunker with plenty of ammo and weapons to defend ourselves. We also have a generous supply of rations.
I remember getting a rock thrown through my window at work in the U.S. Senate Field Office for Conrad Burns (twice) during the 2000 election. It caused the owner to lose his insurance.
Things have gone further downhill since. People are just shitty.
It’s dangerous out there, so be careful this election season and respect the opinions of others. You have a safe place to give your opinions here at The Western Word!
Make sure you vote.
THE WESTERN WORD POLL:
This week’s poll question asks, “Which cable news channel do you watch the most?”
The results will be posted on Thursday.

The real ‘View From Montana’
Oh how far we have fallen…
Apologies for the paywall
If Daines does somehow ooze into a leadership position at the NRSC, he can run with the latest version of the Contract On America as proposed by the current chair of the NRSC, Rick Scott.
– Federal income tax on everyone no matter how little they make, because all the other taxes they pay directly or indirectly somehow does not equate to “skin in the game”.
– 50% cut of IRS personnel and budget so there’s even less chance of rich guys like Scott and Daines having to pay what’s legally required of them.
– Sell off all public lands to fellow rich guys, ending your right to use and enjoy those that was passed down to you as a legacy by our ancestors when they footed the taxpayer funded bills for things like The Louisiana Purchase, Alaska Purchase, Indian wars, etc.
– Sunset all legislation after five years. That’s all Federal laws since the beginning of the Republic. Can anyone imagine these same highly effective congress people trying renew any law at all, much less major prices of legislation like Social Security.
– And so much more.
This is the here and now of the Republican party and its extremist radicals like Scott and Daines.

Interesting that even the extreme right wingers don’t much like Zinke. And they unload on him with a pretty accurate summation of his career.
