The Wednesday Read

Quote for the Day…

I am thankful for all those difficult people in my life. They have shown me exactly who I do not want to be. – Unknown

In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:

  • Annual Gun Law Scorecard
  • Cheap Shot
  • Happy Presidents’ Day
  • The Western Word Poll

ANNUAL GUN LAW SCORECARD:

The Giffords Law Center reports that year after year, the evidence is clear: strong gun laws save lives. They ask, “Is your state doing enough?”

When I first read that, I thought that if you live in Montana, you have a pretty good chance of being killed by a drunk driver or being killed by a gun.

This year Montana received an “F” on the scorecard and ranked 40/50 for gun safety while ranking 11th in gun deaths.

Montana ranks as the 3rd most dangerous state for drunk driving. (Source)

CHEAP SHOT:

Former Interior Secretary, Congressman, and current candidate for congress, Ryan Zinke posted a tweet that I felt crossed the line. Here it is:

Proof President Biden is on Putin’s side: He sent Kamala to handle it.

I remember back when an international conflict was brewing we (the USA) circled the wagons as a country and stood together. It’s bullshit that Zinke and others are playing politics when there’s a conflict brewing.

A U.S. President on the side of Putin? That’s absolute bullshit coming from a guy who worked for a President who fawned over Putin and other dictators.

A little advice for Zinke from a fellow veteran – your margin of error during this upcoming election is slim. You are not helping your cause by attacking the first female Vice President.

Think about being a statesman. Montanans are yearning for a statesman.

HAPPY PRESIDENTS’ DAY:

I saw some of my conservative friends retweet or post on social media a meme from @GOP that showed several Republican Presidents with the caption under each photo that said, “Happy Presidents’ Day to such great U.S. Presidents.”

President Joe Biden’s photo was in the middle of the meme with him wearing a mask. The caption under his photo read, “Not You.”

Thanks for staying classy @GOP. I remember years ago most of the people employed by the GOP and other Republican organizations were the children and relatives of wealthy donors.

Apparently, things have not changed.

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

This week’s poll asks, “Do you agree with the Ex-officer Kim Potter receiving a two-year sentence for the killing of Daunte Wright?” (Source)

The results will be posted Thursday.

  1. Jackie, I understand all that. I just love listening to Zinke saying how opposed he is to corruption while having eighteen indictments for corruption against himself. Sorry for taking too much enjoyment from his own words. But sometimes the irony makes me crazy!

    • Larry – The old tiresome Democratic angle – there’s an investigation against GOP candidate XXXX. By the way, Larry, you just upgraded the charges – there are investigations not indictments.
      Thanks, JmB

  2. That’s a major aspect of Zinke’s life-long behavior. He just cannot stop himself from running his mouth, detailing all the ways his unethical and illegal conduct make him smarter than you. Now, who else do we know with that same foot-in-mouth syndrome? What a disgusting mix of arrogance and ignorance! Montanans deserve a lot better than that………….ALL Montanans

    • Remember this one? This is all you really need to know about the Zinkester. His hero is a zero!

      • Larry – I think all we “really need to know” is that Trump won Montana with 56% and 57% of the vote in the two elections he was on the ballot. It’s no wonder Zinke and other Republicans suck up to him. Thanks, JmB

  3. Trump is still fawning over Putin, praising him as “brilliant”, “genius”, and “pretty savvy” for the way he went into Ukraine while characterizing his invasion as a peacekeeping effort.

Rep. Liz Cheney hit the nail on the head with her take on Trump (and his apologists), “Former President Trump’s adulation of Putin today – including calling him a ‘genius’ – aids our enemies,” Cheney tweeted. “Trump’s interests don’t seem to align with the interests of the United States of America.”

Well, not entirely, Liz … his interests do tend to align with those of the USA as long as it benefits his personal bottom line.
