Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Quote for the Day…

One day or day one? It’s your decision. -Unknown

In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:

  • Jason Ellsworth
  • Haters Hating
  • Thursday Night
  • The Western Word Poll

JASON ELLSWORTH:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting that Montana State Senator Jason Ellsworth (R-Hamilton) pleaded guilty Monday to obstructing a peace officer during a traffic stop in May on a highway east of Helena. The second-term lawmaker apologized for exiting his vehicle during the stop but not for any other conduct, including his demand to be released because of his status as a legislator.

MTFP reported that two additional charges filed by Broadwater County Attorney Cory Swanson were dropped in exchange for Ellsworth’s plea. They were reckless driving and speeding in a construction zone. Ellsworth agreed to pay a $350 fine and $85 in court fees and received a one-year deferred sentence.

I doubt if it was you or I speeding 88 mph in a 55 mph construction zone and then trying to intimidate the officer by saying we would call the state attorney general, that we would get off as easy as Ellsworth did.

Shame on Swanson and Justice of the Peace Kirk Flynn for letting Ellsworth off the hook. Next time Ellsworth, while trying to act like a big shot, may kill or injure someone. That will be on you.

The leadership of the Montana State Senate should remove Ellsworth from all leadership positions.

HATERS HATING:

Early Monday morning from 2:00 am to around 4:00 am I watched the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) (soccer) play Canada in the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics. The USA lost that match 1-0. They still have a chance to get a bronze medal later this week.

Trump supporters and many on the right are angry at the USWNT for their peaceful protests that sometimes occurred during the playing of the National Anthem. Some members have been seen kneeling during the anthem.

As I have said often, I won’t kneel during the National Anthem and that is my choice and it’s the few members of that team’s choice to do it. I served in the military for almost 12 years to protect the freedoms we have in this country.

I’ve always cheered for the USWNT as well as the men’s team. They represent my country. I am proud of what they have accomplished.

The hatred from some on the right is sickening. Some people wanted them to lose all their matches. Some wanted them to be kicked off the team and leave the country. That was bad, but it is their right to say it and to look ignorant in doing so.

What crossed the line was that some personally attacked members of the team for their sexual orientation. One person posted a comment calling one of the stars a “freak” and it was not meant in a good way.

These are some of the same uneducated haters who will post something about loving Jesus, praying, and loving thy neighbor. In their next post, they spew hatred. (1 John 4:20)

I can understand why organized religion is losing members.

Go USA!

THURSDAY NIGHT:

Big News – This Thursday night (August 5) is the first NFL preseason game! The Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is being televised on Fox.

If my calculations are correct, there will be football (NFL and College) every week from August 5 through the Super Bowl on February 13.

The NFL schedules can be found HERE.

There are also 17 regular-season games this year instead of 16.

Go Chiefs!

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

This week’s poll asks, “Who is the kookiest statewide elected official in Montana?”

The results will be posted Thursday.

  1. Why would lil Knudey need a bump stock? Good thing we got constitutionalist sheriff Jesse waiting to not enforce this simple but common sense prohibition. It will give Jesse a chance to make a name for himself, and that name will be dumbass!

Ya know, I’m a gun nut and so are my buddies. We had never even heard of a bump stock until that crazy shot up that concert and killed fifty some people. It has no legitimate purpose other than to kill. And by full auto standards, it’s a joke. So what great second amendment principle is Knudey defending? The right to blow through ammo for the hell of it? The guy who invented it quit making them shortly after that attack. Even he realized it was worthless. You can’t even buy one any longer.

Knudey has some explaining to do. Come to think of it, he’ll make a name for himself too!

  2. I don’t really have a team I follow, I just enjoy the competition. Anymore the drama makes watching less enjoyable. I understand the right and need for some to protest but that’s not what I’m there for. And the lady gymnast getting the yips doesn’t add or subtract anything from her. Just proves she’s human.

  3. There’s Montana kooky and then there’s Arizona kooky. Not a huge difference, it’s just that lil Knudey hasn’t had to use this yet. But the eyes give her away. She’s got Boobert, Elsie, Kristi, Palin eyes. One look and you know she’s cray cray!

    • Larry – I think there’s less humidity with Arizona kooky. Thanks, JmB
