Caught My Eye…

Song Lyrics for the Day…

Oh, Mama, I’m in fear for my life from the long arm of the law.
Law man has put an end to my running and I’m so far from my home.
Oh, Mama I can hear you a-cryin’, you’re so scared and all alone.
Hangman is comin’ down from the gallows, and I don’t have very long.

Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!

CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Sheriff Jesse Slaughter
  • Legislative vs Judicial
  • Rudy, Rudy, Rudy
  • GOP Betrayed America
  • One More Thing

SHERIFF JESSE SLAUGHTER:

In case you missed it, the readers of The Western Word said by a 53-41 margin that they were against rookie Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter switching political parties. Slaughter announced a week or so ago that he was switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.

Slaughter’s reasons for the switch were all over the board, but it’s safe to say that he is not exactly an expert in current affairs.

Republicans rejoiced. Democrats did not.

Me? I think the sheriff should run as non-partisan.

In a June 18, 2021, article in the Great Falls Tribune, the Cascade County Democratic Party called for Slaughter’s resignation. Slaughter was asked about it and this is how the Tribune reported it:

When asked about the CCDCC rebuttal of his announcement Sheriff Slaughter offered only a brief response.
“I’m not commenting,” he said. “I made my point. I’m back to working for the people.”
Asked if he had any intention of resigning as Cascade County Sheriff, Slaughter responded with only two words.
“Absolutely not.”

It does not appear that Slaughter went “back to working for the people” as he said. He appeared a few days later on Fox News trying to act like a Montana cowboy wearing, what some described as, a silly cowboy hat.

You can watch Slaughter’s five minutes of fame on “The Faulkner Focus” by clicking HERE.

I have had several people contact me personally about Slaughter voicing their concerns about him and his job performance during his short time as Cascade County Sheriff.

In closing, Slaughter may need more help to win re-election than by just switching political parties. I’m sure there’s a person or two in Cascade County with law enforcement experience wondering how they might fair against the rookie sheriff.

LEGISLATIVE VS JUDICIAL:

This week Lee Newspapers reported that a GOP-led legislative committee investigating the judicial branch has withdrawn its embattled subpoenas for Montana Supreme Court records.

Earlier this year, I predicted the Republicans in the Montana Legislature would lose against the Judicial branch.

Although the Republicans have “withdrawn its embattled subpoenas” this is an embarrassing loss for them.

The fact is the Republicans in the Montana legislature could not pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel.

RUDY, RUDY, RUDY:

Here at The Western Word, I am brutally honest. It sometimes gets me in trouble, but what the hell. I am not looking for a job with the left or the right so they can kiss my ass if they disagree. I’m truly independent.

Here’s my point: There was once a time that I thought Rudy Giuliani would make a great President. Yes, that was me.

Not now. He’s lost it.

The Hill is reporting that the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court on Thursday announced that it is suspending Rudy Giuliani’s license to practice law in the state. The court concluded that Giuliani made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” to courts, lawmakers, and the public when he was representing former President Trump and his campaign in their failed effort to overturn the 2020 election results.

Giuliani was at the top of his game when he took control after 9/11. He was “America’s Mayor.” He went down the shitter when his hair dye ran down his face while trying to say Donald Trump was cheated out of a second term.

Giuliani is an embarrassment to America.

GOP BETRAYED AMERICA:

Meidas Touch has a new ad called “GOP Betrayed America” that you must watch. Fox News declined to run the ad.

Click HERE to watch it. Share it on your social media accounts.

ONE MORE THING:

There’s a fine line between crazy and free-spirited and it’s usually a prescription. -Unknown

  1. The adoption of a Really Stupid Looking cowboy hat is the first step toward full blown card carrying membership in the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. You read it here first.

Fox News refusing to run a political ad they didn’t like constitutes censorship of centrist and liberal voices by Big Tech/Media. Expect to hear crickets from the usual right wing censorship warriors.

    • Too late. Without the bother of having to endure the rigorous requirements of becoming qualified to run for a seat on our Supreme Court, Jesse simply elevated himself on high to make rulings for the courts. He fancies himself an expert on the Constitution. He reminds me of Mike Royoko’s character Dr. I.M. Kooky, an expert on all kinds of stuff. I suspect he must be a graduate of the Gen. Robert E. Skees seminar on The Constitution for Racist Dummies!

Good article from a L.E. magazine. Very even handed.

    • mtcreels – thanks. The BDC editorial board is knocking out some fine opinions. -JmB

  2. Jesse has gone full blown oath keeper. I think even the business host is taken aback by what a simpleton he is. And that back drop. Straight outta militia headquarters! Very poor ambassador for our city. He’d be a hit in the Bitterroot. I knew he was unfit for office after his testimony for guns on campus. That’s insane.

    • Larry – While I cannot speak for other voters, I’d like a sheriff who does his/her job and stays out of politics. I am “stay in your lane, bro” voter. Thanks, JmB
