Caught My Eye…

Quote for the day…

I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly. – Unknown

Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!

CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Juneteenth
  • Spiking the Ball
  • Tucker Carlson
  • Dumbass of the Week
  • One More Thing

JUNETEENTH:

The Associated Press (AP) reported President Joe Biden signed legislation Thursday establishing a new federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery, saying he believes it will go down as one of the greatest honors he has as president. Biden signed into law a bill to make Juneteenth, or June 19, the 12th federal holiday. The House voted 415-14 on Wednesday to send the bill to Biden, while the Senate passed the bill unanimously the day before.

The AP also reported that the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which is the human resources office for the federal government, tweeted Thursday that most federal employees will observe the new holiday — Juneteenth National Independence Day — on Friday since June 19 falls on a Saturday this year.

Sadly, in the same AP report U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale, (R-MT/AL) was mentioned for his “No” vote on the bill. In the past week, Rosendale has embarrassed Montana several times.

SPIKING THE BALL:

Republicans across the state are spiking the ball after Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter announced that he was switching parties from Democrat to Republican.

The Western Word was one of the first to report the news about Slaughter in my post from the late evening of June 15.

Like I said in that column, I voted for Slaughter. He has done a decent job. He needs to stay away from the politics and as the saying goes, “Stay in your lane, bro.” You are just the Sheriff. That’s it, bucko.

One of the questions that I have for any candidates who come to my door is, “Did you vote for Trump?” I would ask the same of Slaughter.

Finally, I hope Slaughter devotes more time to beefing up and training his “Search and Rescue” unit so families don’t have to call out of state experts to find cars and bodies in the Missouri River (in a few days) after Slaughter’s people could not do it in years.

It’s OK to spike the ball – just make sure you’re in the endzone, first.

TUCKER CARLSON:

I often wonder how long it will be before Fox News host Tucker Carlson crashes and burns. Carlson has worked for CNN, PBS, MSNBC, and now Fox News in his career.

He’s never had a following as strong as he does with his Fox News show.

The Washington Post reported this week that Carlson is spreading a new conspiracy theory about the January 6 insurrection. The WaPo reports:

Carlson’s theory is essentially that the presence of unindicted co-conspirators in the Capitol riot indictments means those people are government agents and that this, in turn, means the FBI was involved in organizing the riot. The idea has since caught on with conspiratorially minded congressional Republicans.

Beam me up, Scotty.

If you watch Tucker Carlson frequently, then you just might be a dumbass.

Vanity Fair reports on it HERE.

DUMBASS OF THE WEEK:

This week’s “Dumbass of the Week” is U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT/AL).

Rosendale embarrassed Montana by being one of the 14 members of the U.S. House who voted against a bill (S. 475) to establish Juneteenth National Independence Day, a US federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. (Source)

Rosendale was also one of 21 Republicans to vote “Nay” on H.R. 3325. The bill would award four congressional gold medals to the United States Capitol Police and those who protected the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. (Source)

U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale s hereby awarded The Western Word’s “Dumbass of the Week” award.

ONE MORE THING:

Golden country your face is so red
With all of your money your poor can be fed
You strut around and you flirt with disaster
Never really carin’ just what comes after
Well your blacks are dyin’ but your back is still turned
And your freaks are cryin’ but your back is still turned
You better stop your hidin or your country will burn
The time has come for you my friend
To all this ugliness we must put an end
Before we leave we must make a stand

  1. Holy cow! Just watched Jesse’s video. Damn hard to tell if he’s a nut job or just plain stupid. Or both! Either way, it’s quite disconcerting when your local sheriff goes full blown fascist. And you’re exactly right. The dude is WAY outside of his lane. He needs to resign and join his fellow oath keepers in time for the next insurrection!

    • Larry – Haha. Jesse probably thinks he is on the right side of history. I think he needs to look up Antifa and Fascism and not be so quick to call every group he disagrees with a terrorist organization. Thanks, JmB

      • I think this is worth a re-post for folks who haven’t yet seen this. It’s unprecedented in Montana. This is what you’d expect from some podunk redneck sheriff in Kingman, Arizona, not one of the largest cities in Montana. Truly bizarre. When did the Leroy Schweitzer and the Freemen become the law in Montana?

    • When Jesse did things like saying he would refuse to do his job and enforce the court’s rules on masks in the courtroom, it was readily apparent he was a far right winger anyhow. A DINO.

So he’s switching because an EX-candidate from the D party pointed out that the US armed forces fought fascism in WWII just like antifa opposes it now? Let’s get real. And some unnamed someones in Cascade County want to confiscate guns? Really? Total opportunism.

      • Terry – like I kinda said, Jesse should shut up and do his job. He should stay in his lane. Haha. Thanks, JmB

      • Head nut job Cyndi Baker can hardly contain her excitement, nor the opportunity to call democrats terrorists. Great party you’re joining, Jesse. You don’t want to consort with us terrorists and law enforcement haters. From Montana right now:

“ Chair of the Cascade County Republican Central Committee Cyndi Baker said in a release that Sheriff Slaughter’s decision has earned him support from every republican legislator in Cascade County.

Baker’s release goes on to say:

We share his concerns regarding lack of respect for the profession of law enforcement by the Democratic party as well as the local candidates who have aligned themselves with radical and even terrorist organizations.

We laud Sheriff Slaughter’s desire to stand up for all the citizens in Cascade County and know he will continue to do an outstanding job no matter the party designation.

We are the “big tent” party and we welcome any other Democrat office holder or constituent who feels that their voice is not being heard or their concerns are not being addressed.”

      • Larry – whatever the local Cascade County Republicans did seemed to work; they won a lot of races. The Democrats have some work to do. Thanks, JmB

      • Judging by the Trump admin DHS assessment of last year that radical right wing white supremacist groups (such as the pro-Trump groups that led the charge at the insurrection and who are unfortunately well established in Montana) constitute the primary domestic terrorism threat in the USA, it seems more reasonable to conclude that the Montana Republicans and any who join that party are the ones aligning themselves with terrorists. White supremacists #1, foreign terrorists #2, and no mention at all of the dread antifa.

“for the times they are a’changin” Oops sorry wrong song. Very good slightly plagiarized Rock and Roll 🙂

  3. The Post story mentions that government agents and informers literally cannot be referred to as co-conspirators in an indictment as a matter of law. Unfortunate for Tucker’s theory, and embarrassing for the ignoramus whack job congresspersons running with this latest fantasy. At least I’ve not seen Matt Rosendale’s name attached to this … yet.

    • Terry – thanks for the information and link. Crazy times. -JmB
