The cost of not following your heart is spending the rest of your life wishing you had. ― Anonymous
Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!
CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Tester’s Schedule
- Dumbass of The Week
- One More Thing
TESTER’S SCHEDULE:
If you follow me on Twitter then you were one of the first to see a Fox News story about U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) not posting his official schedule for “almost three months.”
At first, I thought this must be an old story, but after checking the date I found out it wasn’t.
Those on the conservative side rejoiced in getting something on Tester.
Let me be honest, there’s a lot of bullshit being spread on both sides about Tester’s schedule.
First, Tester saying he would post his schedule was nothing but a campaign gimmick. Others had done it before, and many do it now. I always found Tester’s schedule fascinating for what it did not show. I remember Tester announcing he would post his schedule. Then his people threw in some carefully crafted photos of his tractor and “farmer Jon” wearing some dirty work clothes while working on his organic farm. That sealed the deal. He also promised he would have “a judge” conduct an ethics review each year. The progressive media from San Francisco to New York had a field day praising the farmer from Big Sandy – especially a couple of Tester-friendly reporters based in Montana.
It was a winning formula built on bullshit.
Second, this is 2021. Tester has been elected three times (2006, 2012, and 2018) and beat the best that the Montana GOP could throw at him. Additionally, President Donald Trump and his family spent millions in campaign funds trying to beat Tester. They lost.
The fact is nobody except the partisans give a shit about Tester’s schedule these days. I cared in 2006; I don’t care now. Tester hosts town hall meetings with real Montanans and allows anyone to attend. They are publicized.
Look for a town hall meeting open to the public being held by Steve Daines, Matt Rosendale, or Greg Gianforte. I’ll wait. They seem to be cowards.
As for the excuse from Tester’s spokesperson, “Due to a staff error, Senator Tester’s public schedule was not posted online from Jan-28-April 20.” I’m sure of the 50 or so employees on Tester’s senate payroll, nobody checked to see if his schedule was able to be viewed.
Sure, that’s the ticket.
Maybe come clean and just say, “We did not think anyone would notice.”
There are few places that people have access to their elected officials like they do in Montana. Sadly, times are changing. It’s a dangerous world and Montana is even more dangerous with the wackos running around able to open carry. Thank you Montana Legislature. These days I would advise any elected official to keep their public schedule close to their vest.

DUMBASS OF THE WEEK:
This week’s “Dumbass of the Week” is Montana State Senator Keith Regier (R-Kalispell).
Regier was talking on the Senate floor about his support of HB 702 a bill to “Prohibit discrimination based on vaccine status or possessing immunity passport” when he said the following:
“It’s still requiring employees put something in their bodies in order to be employed. That’s crazy. What’s next? I’ve read articles about putting a little chip in with the vaccine.”
I can’t believe there are dumbasses out there who believe this crap. For his comments about “putting a little chip in with the vaccine” State Senator Keith Regier (R-Kalispell) is The Western Word’s “Dumbass of the Week.”
ONE MORE THING:
Another point of view:
Chauvin immediately stood and calmly placed his hands behind his back.
Imagine where we’d be had George done the same. – @robertas_world
To be fair Rosendale recently held a virtual town hall. I ignored my invite. From what I have read it was a very partisan right wing talking points affair, so just as well.
Terry – thanks. Ol Matt using the pandemic to his advantage. #ChickenShit. Thanks, JmB
Jon T. has also held many Facebook town hall type events during the pandemic. It’s only prudent. Mildly surprised to see him getting out and about the state in person like he did recently.
Terry – It would take years for Daines, Gianforte, and Rosendale to do as many town hall meetings as Tester. They are afraid. Thanks, JmB
