Quote of the Day…

Some people don’t like you just because your strength reminds them of their weakness. Don’t let the hate slow you down. ― Thema Davis

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

-Daines & the Cartel

DAINES & METH:

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) continues to make an ass of himself for his remarks while visiting the southern border last week.

Daines was quoted saying the following:

“Twenty years ago in Montana, meth was homemade. It was homegrown. And you had purity levels less than 30 percent. Today the meth that is getting into Montana is Mexican cartel. It has purities north of 95 percent. Far more dangerous, far more addictive, and it’s less expensive.”

It sounded like Daines was promoting Montana meth like he would promote Montana beef over imported beef. It’s a gaffe that keeps giving.

It did not have to be that way.

Lee Newspapers had the headline “Daines’ meth remarks overshadow southern border trip” which is exactly correct.

Daines could have easily corrected the gaffe that made him look like an ass by saying something like, “I did not clearly articulate what I wanted to say about the drugs that are coming into Montana from Mexico.”

In the Lee Newspaper article, Daines blamed the “reporters from east coast newspapers.” His out-of-touch staff blamed the “mainstream media and liberals” for what was a failure of their boss to communicate effectively.

Daines fundraised on his trip to the southern border. The Republican Senators who traveled to the border did not do so to find a solution but to score political points against Biden and Democrats. That’s how effed up our politics are these days.

DAINES & THE CARTEL:

Breitbart News reported that U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) said that he and other Republican senators were “taunted” by Mexican cartel members during a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley Sector in Texas.

According to Breitbart, Daines said, “We had Border Patrol who could translate what the cartel members were saying. It was vile. It was threatening. It was obscene, because they know they can have their way. They’re not afraid.”

In the interview, Daines sounded like the guard at Wally World (National Lampoon’s Vacation) after the Griswold family broke into the park, “He treated me like a dog, Mr. Wally. He humiliated my human decency.”

Maybe Daines is too soft to be a senator. He won’t meet constituents face to face in Montana. He gets his feelings hurt when people shout at him from across the river, although he was being protected by armed agents from the Border Patrol.

Wimpy.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:

According to Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, Donald Trump will be president again by August.

From the Independent:

Donald Trump will be president again by August, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell told Steve Bannon in a bizarre podcast rant.

The MAGA-supporting businessman told the ex-president’s former adviser that he was set to file a lawsuit that would confirm his debunked allegations of 2020 voter fraud.

“What I’m talking about, Steve, is what I’ve been doing since 9 January,” Mr Lindell said on Mr Bannon’s WarRoom Pandemic podcast.

“All the evidence I have — everything is going to go before the Supreme Court and the election of 2020 is going bye-bye.”

I think I remember seeing Lindell on the UFO. He was sitting across from Elvis and Big Foot…
