Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!
CME is the once a week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Six Weeks
- Every 40 Seconds
- Franklin Graham
- One More Thing
SIX WEEKS:
The Great Falls Tribune ran a story titled, “Six weeks after election, most Montana’s top Republicans have yet to recognize President-elect.” Read it HERE.
I am not surprised.
The Tribune mentioned that soon-to-be Governor, Greg Gianforte, finally recognized Joe Biden as President-Elect. The only other Republican to acknowledge the Biden victory is Montana Secretary of State Corey Stapleton, according to the Tribune.
I look for U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) to do something silly when the joint session of Congress convenes on January 6 to count the electoral votes. Daines has had his nose up Trump’s butt for most of the last three years. Since Daines was just reelected, he can go all-in in trying to steal the victory from Biden. He will fail, but he’ll get some publicity on Fox News.
As for other Republicans in the state, I look for the clowns in the state legislature to pass a resolution declaring Trump the winner. It won’t mean anything, but years from now people will look back at it and laugh at the idiocracy.
EVERY 40 SECONDS:
There have been more than 50,000 deaths in just the past month, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the past week, an average of 2,403 people in the United States have died from Covid-19 every day. That’s an average of one Covid-19 death every 40 seconds. (CNN)
Again, that’s an average of one Covid-19 death every 40 seconds.
Yesterday I wrote about a Lee Newspaper report:
Republican members of the Montana Legislature voted Wednesday to hold the upcoming session in person and with no precautions like mask use, distancing or testing protocols, though there is the option to participate remotely. The vote came from the Joint House and Senate Rules Committee and fell on party lines, with 21 Republicans for the proposal and 13 Democrats against it.
In my column, I called the Republicans “dumbasses” for doing this. It was to get the point across about how stupid they are acting. I will continue to believe it until they show me otherwise.
Meanwhile, our President is too busy spreading fake information about voting to lead.
These are troubling times.
FRANKLIN GRAHAM:
As a kid, my family would watch the Billy Graham Crusades. They would last an hour and at the end, people would go forward for prayer while the song, “Just As I Am” played.
Billy Graham counseled Presidents from Harry Truman to Barack Obama. He counseled Republicans and Democrats.
I always respected Billy Graham. As for his son Franklin Graham, I don’t have much respect.
Franklin Graham wrote this week, “President Trump will go down in history as one of the great presidents of our nation, bringing peace and prosperity to millions here in the U.S. and around the world.”
The 300,000 who have died from COVID and their families may disagree with that, Reverend.
Graham never mentioned the thousands of Trump lies or that he is on his third wife and that he does not respect women. Oh, and Trump is a racist. He did not mention locking the children up in cages, either.
Franklin Graham has made me more than ever believe that religious leaders should stay out of politics. They should pray for our leaders and urge people to vote and pray for our elected leaders, no matter what political party. There need to be new lines drawn on the separation of church and state. Big bold lines that can’t be crossed. Franklin Graham is exhibit “A.”
