Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Today’s quote…

If they had just called it “the stay at home challenge” and posted it on social media, the virus would be gone by now. -Unknown

Today’s column takes a quick look at these people/issues:

  • Montana Republican Party
  • Biden Won. Trump Lost.
  • Beth Moore
  • One More Thing

I happened to see a press release from the Montana Republican Party announcing that the 2020 Presidential Electors selected by the Montana Republican Party cast Montana’s three electoral votes in favor of President Donald J. Trump at the State Capitol in Helena, MT.

There was a photo of the Presidential Electors with Secretary of State Cory Stapleton and two others. None of the people were wearing masks and they were not socially distancing.

Shame on them for their ignorance. I call people like that, “maskholes.”

The United States topped 300,000 deaths on Monday with over 16 million cases.

If you examine the results of the 2020 elections, the Montana Republicans have a lot to boast about. They dominated. They were very impressive in Cascade County (Great Falls). It’s time to lead. If the photo is any indication, they are not ready.

If Republicans continue to break the COVID rules for political purposes in the State Capitol, they may end up costing lives. As I have said before, the Montana Legislature should delay the 2021 session until July for the safety of Montanans.

The Associated Press (AP) probably reported it best:

The Electoral College decisively confirmed Joe Biden on Monday as the nation’s next president, ratifying his November victory in an authoritative state-by-state repudiation of President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede he had lost. The presidential electors gave Biden a solid majority of 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, the same margin that Trump bragged was a landslide when he won the White House four years ago.

After Biden was declared the winner, Trump announced that Attorney General William Barr was leaving his cabinet.

The next step in the process is the electoral votes are scheduled to be opened before a joint session of Congress on January 6, 2021. Vice President Mike Pence will preside. In the session, they will open the 2020 presidential election electoral votes submitted by state government officials, certifying their validity, count them, and declare the official result of the election for President and Vice President. The inauguration is on January 20.

Biden gave a speech after the results were in and as the AP reported he ”criticized” President Donald Trump “for threatening core principles of democracy.”

Biden had a tough time with his speech. He needed to cough a few times and clear his throat. I tweeted, “Drink some water, Joe. You’re scaring us.”

Over the past four or five years, I have been disappointed in my fellow evangelical Christians for their support of Donald Trump. He fooled many of them and used evangelicals to become President. One of Trump’s biggest supporters is Franklin Graham. I lost all respect for him due to his support of Trump.

I’m not one to judge people on whether I think they are Christians or not. God will make the final and only judgment that matters.

Often you can tell a Christian by their actions.

There’s an evangelical who recently spoke out about “Trumpism.” Beth Moore is an author and evangelical. She is the founder of Living Proof Ministries in Houston, Texas. In a series of Tweets she said a lot of what I believe:

I do not believe these are days for mincing words. I’m 63 1/2 years old & I have never seen anything in these United States of America I found more astonishingly seductive & dangerous to the saints of God than Trumpism. This Christian nationalism is not of God. Move back from it.

Fellow leaders, we will be held responsible for remaining passive in this day of seduction to save our own skin while the saints we’ve been entrusted to serve are being seduced, manipulated, USED and stirred up into a lather of zeal devoid of the Holy Spirit for political gain.

And, God help us, we don’t turn from Trumpism to Bidenism. We do not worship flesh and blood. We do not place our faith in mortals. We are the church of the living God. We can’t sanctify idolatry by labeling a leader our Cyrus. We need no Cyrus. We have a king. His name is Jesus.

Amen to that.
