Caught My Eye…

Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!

CME is the once a week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Still Undecided
  • U.S. Attorney for Montana
  • Trump Train Caravan
  • One More Thing

STILL UNDECIDED:

MTN News reported this week that Montana’s top two Republican officials (U.S. Senator Steve Daines and U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte) are still not acknowledging that Democrat Joe Biden won the Nov. 3 presidential election, saying it’s “not settled” and that litigation is ongoing.

Of course, U.S. Senator Jon Tester, a Democrat, saw it differently:

“I think what the president is doing right now really does undermine the democracy of this country,” he said. “This is the greatest country in the world because we’ve had people that have had common sense in the White House. I don’t see a lot of common sense coming out of the White House right now.”

So this is politics in 2020. I’m sure that Daines and Gianforte are worried about what Trump might do to them if they don’t back him until the bitter end. Trump received more votes in Montana than they did. Trump is not going to be reelected, but he does have some serious campaign cash in the bank and he may run in 2024.

I wonder if Daines/Gianforte will show up at the “Stop the Steal Rally” on Saturday? (See below)

U.S. ATTORNEY FOR MONTANA:

I saw this week that The Montana Post said Raph Graybill would make an excellent U.S. Attorney for Montana.

I don’t care who the next U.S. Attorney for Montana is, but it got me thinking. I do have two names to mention that might have an inside track. Of course, U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) will have a lot of say in the matter.

The first is Zeno Baucus, who I believe already is or recently was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Montana. His father, former U.S. Senator and China Ambassador Max Baucus is very good friends with President-elect Joe Biden.

Back in the summer of 2011, then-Vice President Joe Biden came to Montana on Air Force Two to attend Max’s last wedding in the Helena area. Max Baucus and Joe Biden served many years in the U.S. Senate together.

The second is Steve Bullock. Bullock was the Montana Attorney General and he would fit right in as a U.S. Attorney. Some suspect there’s a higher calling for Bullock, so we’ll see.

TRUMP TRAIN CARAVAN:

There was a paid advertisement in the Thursday Great Falls Tribune announcing a caravan from Great Falls to Helena.

Here is what it advertised:

Losses are tough to accept. Have a nice drive…

ONE MORE THING:

Why is the Trump White House suddenly a very polite place to work? Everyone’s going around saying “pardon me.”@DanRather
