Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Today’s quote…

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • Amy Coney Barrett
  • Marco Rubio
  • MT Senate: Liars
  • Campaign Literature

AMY CONEY BARRETT:

She’s in! For a lifetime! Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the U.S. Senate Monday evening by a vote of 52-48.

Last Thursday, I said Barrett will probably get about 52 votes on her confirmation. I’ll be here all week if you have questions… 😉

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the vote was the closest high court confirmation ever to a presidential election, and the first in modern times with no support from the minority party.

President Donald Trump won. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won. Senate Judiciary chair Lindsey Graham won. Republicans won. The Republicans even held a swearing-in party (or was it another super-spreader event) at the White House. The President announced that U.S. Senator Steve Daines was there.

The conservatives now have a 6-3 majority on the court. We all know how majorities don’t always add up on some issues.

The Democrats tried to stop the train called Amy Coney Barrett, and they bitched and whined about it, but having your man in the White House and a majority in the U.S. Senate comes with perks – even if the man in the White House is an asshole. Republicans have learned to hold their noses because they have the White House and the Senate, for now.

Democrats can look back and say that maybe if Hillary had spent more time in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, she would have been in the position to nominate three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. Three justices in one term. Wow!

While they may learn something by looking back, what the Democrats should really do is spend the next week fighting like hell to elect Joe Biden and to get control of the U.S. Senate.

MARCO RUBIO:

U.S. Senator Marco “Polo” Rubio (R-FL) is making a stop in Great Falls today (Tuesday) to campaign for U.S. Senator Steve Daines.

Here are the details:

If my memory serves me correctly, Daines campaigned for Rubio when Rubio was running for President in 2016. The country would probably be better off if Rubio had been elected.

Rubio, like many other Republicans, was tough on Trump during the 2016 primary season but has grown to love the power of having a Republican in the White House and has lost his spine when it comes to taking on Trump. He’s not alone in losing his spine, but he does not have his nose up Trump’s butt as much as Daines.

By the way, I bet he’s never been called Marco “Polo” before – what do you think?

MT SENATE: LIARS:

MTN News reported this week that as Montana’s big-dollar U.S. Senate race enters its final week, the campaigns of Republican U.S. Sen. Steve Daines and his Democratic challenger, Gov. Steve Bullock, are trading charges of “liar” about everything from China to Covid-19 aid.

SPOILER ALERT: Steve Daines is the one who is lying in his campaign commercials.

CAMPAIGN LITERATURE (UPDATE):

As I normally do this time of year, I wanted to update readers about how much campaign literature I have received in the U.S. Mail, or that was left on my front door.

So far, I have received a total of 167 pieces of campaign literature. Last week I had received a total of 127 pieces.

There are three registered voters in my household.

There are just about 7 days left until Election Day! Make sure you are registered to vote! CLICK HERE.
