I wear a mask to make sure I’m alive on Election Day! – Unknown
Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME).
CME is the once a week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week and get stuff off my chest!
Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Bozeman Daily Chronicle
- General Election Ballots
- Trump & Debates
- Sick of It
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
- VP Debate Poll Results
BOZEMAN DAILY CHRONICLE:
They did it again.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle (BDC) editorial board endorsed Mike Cooney to be the next governor of Montana.
What did they do again?
The BDC editorial board once again did not endorse one of their hometown boys, Greg Gianforte. Earlier they endorsed Steve Bullock over Steve Daines. Daines resides in Bozeman.
The editorial board made a point that I have made several times:
When Mr. Gianforte challenged Bullock for the governorship four years ago, he struggled to tell this board of a single past Bullock veto that he supported. Today, that tells us that if he is elected, the checks and balances of our state government will likely go by the wayside.
Nobody will be there to stop the right-wingers from going crazy if Gianforte wins.
Just like Daines, Gianforte declined an invitation to meet with the Chronicle editorial board. That’s something from the Trump playbook. These rich bastards think they don’t have to abide by the rules.
The BDC pointed out that Republicans have held majorities in both houses of the state Legislature for 11 years running and controlled both houses in all but two legislatures in the last 25 years.
That’s why it’s funny when I see these anti-Cooney ads accusing him of raising fees and taxes. It seems with the GOP controlling the legislature most of the time, they would have had to go along with it.

GENERAL ELECTION BALLOTS:
The Montana Republicans and the Trump campaign tried to suppress our votes in Montana, but after losing in Federal District Court, they were slapped down by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and then by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that a final effort to block most Montana counties from mailing general election ballots to active voters was denied Thursday, a day before the ballots are to be mailed. Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan rejected a request for an emergency injunction.
I’ve voted by mail for years and I have never had a problem. This case filed by Republicans is nothing but an attempt to suppress votes.
Shame on them.
TRUMP & DEBATES:
Early Thursday morning President Donald Trump announced that he would not participate in the next presidential debate (Oct. 15) because it was going to be a virtual debate due to him and most of his people in the White House having coronavirus.
The non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates was trying to be safety-conscious by making it virtual. Trump is afraid that they will shut off his microphone, so he refused to participate. That’s it plain and simple.
Trump changes his mind so much, who knows what he will say about debating tomorrow.
As much as Trump’s poll numbers tanked after the last debate, he may not want to debate Biden again.
The other thing is that Trump and his people have not been upfront about his health. Who knows if he is still testing positive? Who believes him or any of his doctors after the debacle from his time in Walter Reed?
The AP reported:
The White House, meanwhile, continued to decline to share when Trump last tested negative for the virus — which would help pinpoint when he was infected. Strategic communications director Alyssa Farah said that information was Trump’s “private medical history.”
The “private medical history” line means to me that there’s information that he does not want to be released.
SICK OF IT:
Maybe some of the backward and uneducated people supporting President Donald Trump think it is funny or makes him sound tough when he calls people names and acts like an ass. I don’t.
On Thursday Trump had the following to say about U.S. Senator Kamala Harris:
“She’s a communist. She’s not a socialist, she’s well beyond a socialist,” he said, going on to make false, fear-mongering claims that Harris wants to “open up the borders to allow killers and murderers and rapists to pour into our country.”
He twice called Harris, the first woman of color on a major party ticket, a “monster.”
Just imagine if Kamala Harris was your daughter or sister or your mother, and the President of the United States called her these names. It’s nothing but despicable.
I see gullible people post things like:
In XX days, you get to chose between communism or freedom. Which will it be?
Seriously? That message is so ignorant that people posting it should slap themselves.
It’s like Obama was going to take all our guns.
Grow up people – debate the facts and do some fact-checking to strengthen your argument.
HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI:
The Democrats are cruising along ahead in many races. They will probably keep the majority in the U.S. House and may take over the majority in the U.S. Senate.
They may win the big prize – the presidency!
Then this happened. The New York Post reported:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says her team is “going to be talking about the 25th Amendment” on Friday — the latest in a long line of nutty Democratic fantasies of getting rid of President Trump.
Just stop it. Trump proves every day that he is not fit to hold the office of President of the United States.
Just give him enough rope, and he’ll hang himself. Don’t save him by giving people a reason to feel sorry for the fool.
VP DEBATE POLL:
The Western Word conducted a vice presidential debate poll after the Wednesday evening debate. Here are the results:
- Kamala Harris: 59%
- Mike Pence: 36%
- Draw: 5%
I wish I would have listed the fly as a choice.
Thanks for participating.
We know that the 25th Amendment as written is ineffective when you pack your Cabinet with stooges, sycophants and greedy partisans. And then replace them with “Acting” after “Acting” stooges etc.-see Pendley and Chad Wolf and that racist sociopath from Virginia (he has an Italian last name that I can’t recall right now).

Ken Cuccinelli, that’s the guy’s name.
I also get a kick out of the “In XX days, you get to chose between communism or freedom. Which will it be?” alarmism. Joe Biden has a long more-or-less centrist track record in government, including VP on Obama’s watch. He’s not going to make a sharp left turn to extremism if he gets elected.
The only reason he’s scary to the right is that the right has tacked so far into extremism itself. Today’s Trump/McConnell GOP would be unrecognizable to pragmatic Republican centrists of our recent past such as Ford, GHW Bush, and even Ronald Reagan. (FWIW I voted for all three.) They can no longer even catch a glimpse of the center receding in the distance.
The real question should be, “In XX days, you get to chose between a autocrat King or freedom and democracy. Which will it be?”
Terry – Spot on. Thanks, JmB
How does the last negative test pinpoint when Trump was infected?
Mary – I’m thinking they know how his symptoms played out like him using oxygen and can get in the ballpark about when he was infected. -JmB

From CNN:
Why does it matter when Trump last tested negative? Because, if officials had that information, they would be able to conceptualize the universe of people that Trump had potentially infected between that last negative test and his positive test eight days ago.
