Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME).

CME is the once a week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

TRUMPS IN QUARANTINE:

The Associated Press (AP) and other sources reported late Thursday evening that President Donald Trump said that he and first lady Melania Trump are beginning a “quarantine process” as they await coronavirus test results after Hope Hicks, one his closest aides, had tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday.

As the AP pointed out, Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of serious complications from the virus.

Later in the evening, Trump tweeted this message:

Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

I wish the Trumps a full and fast recovery.

THE MELANIA TAPES:

#MelaniaTapes was trending on Twitter Thursday evening! I wondered what it could be – Is it more nude photos or a newly discovered XXX movie?

After a thorough investigation, CNN was reporting about the First Lady being secretly recorded in the summer of 2018 expressing her frustration at being criticized for her husband’s policy of separating families who illegally crossed the southern border while at the same time needing to perform traditional first lady duties, such as preparing for Christmas.

CNN reports the recording was done by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former friend and senior adviser to the first lady who wrote a book about their relationship, “Melania and Me.”

In one exchange, the First Lady says, “I’m working … my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f*** about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?”

Someone should have told her, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

I’m not sure how Trump’s supporters who say there’s “War on Christmas” by those on the left will feel about Mrs. Trump saying who gives a f*** about the Christmas stuff and decorations?”

After listening to the tapes, I was surprised how easily the First Lady threw around the F-word. It was like a second language to her…

THE SECOND DEBATE:

I am kind of expecting President Donald Trump to refuse to participate in the second debate if there are rule changes.

Most people believe there need to be some changes like being able to mute a candidate’s microphone if they won’t shut up. Some people believe they should just cancel the remaining debates altogether.

He may not have a choice since he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Back in 2016, Trump boycotted a debate after Fox News refused to yield to his demand that network anchor Megyn Kelly be replaced as a moderator. (Reuters)

Trump tweeted this week, “Why would I allow the Debate Commission to change the rules for the second and third Debates when I easily won last time?”

AMY CONEY BARRETT:

Opposition research is a beautiful thing…

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett signed a 2006 newspaper ad sponsored by an anti-abortion group in which she said she opposed “abortion on demand” and defended “the right to life from fertilization to the end of natural life.”

She failed to report this sponsorship to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

The AP added:

The ad, which had more than 1,200 names attached to it, appears to be the most direct expression of Barrett’s opposition to abortion and is sure to intensify debate that she would vote to restrict, if not overturn, abortion rights if she is confirmed to the Supreme Court.

Is this a game-changer? Nope. It’s a small problem that she will need to be prepared to respond to. Everyone figured she was pro-life all the way. This just proves it.

TWW DEBATE POLL:

After the debate Tuesday night, I asked readers, “Who do you think won the first presidential debate, Donald Trump or Joe Biden?”

Here are the results:

  • JOE BIDEN: 65%
  • DONALD TRUMP: 19%
  • DRAW: 16%

ONE MORE THING:

It was nasty. Donald Trump went after Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who came to the U.S. as a Somali refugee when she was a teenager, for basically being a refugee.

It’s not that Omar cannot handle herself. She responded to his attacks by saying:

“I mean, this man is a white supremacist, so it’s no surprise that he has ideas or feelings that Somalis are worthless,” Omar said on MSNBC.

“Not only are Minnesotans welcoming of refugees, they have sent one to Washington to represent them,” she added, referring to herself. “We are very clear that in Minnesota we are greater than hate. That is why he didn’t win Minnesota in 2016, and why he’s not going to win Minnesota in 2020.”

Omar has been a U.S. Citizen since 2000. In contrast, the President’s latest wife, Melania, has been a U.S. Citizen since 2006.

  1. Remember Don Trump’s claim about ballots being found in a river? Remember how pull-string doll McInanity got all bent when asked for details yesterday?

    Well, “Three trays of mail were found in a ditch in Greenville last week, and the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office said at the time it included several absentee ballots.

    Meagan Wolfe, director of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, said during a virtual news conference Thursday that no Wisconsin absentee ballots were found. She said she did not know if there were ballots from other states.

    “There was mail found outside of Appleton and that mail did not include any Wisconsin ballots,” Wolfe said. ”

  2. Married to a disqualified president who should be detained as a public health hazard, a little defense for Melania. Many people who learn English as a second language do not understand how the F*** word affects native English speakers. Melania probably just hears it all the time so she thinks it is common usage in polite society. Of which she likely knows nothing .

  3. Considerring the way Trump was braying at the top of his lungs at Biden and Wallace throughout the debate, and the fact that a goodly number of the Trump crue was sitting in the audience without masks (in defiance of the host venue’s rules) presumably close to Hicks, I would not be at all surprised if a lot more people came out of that event with Covid.
