The Wednesday Read

Quote of the Day:

If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. – George Washington

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • Plane to Plane
  • Hanoi Jane
  • One More Thing

PLANE TO PLANE:

KGVO is reporting that after the Republican rally in Belgrade on Monday, Montana U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte was able to snag a ride back to Washington, D.C. with Vice President Mike Pence and Montana Senator Steve Daines.

Gianforte, who is the wealthiest member of the U.S. House and the second wealthiest member of the whole Congress (Source), said he was almost ashamed to ride back to Washington on such an inferior plane. That last sentence was a joke.

Gianforte, who was on Air Force Two said he did get to speak to President Trump who was on Air Force One.

I wonder if the President gave him a list of reporters to assault.

Gianforte, who has a master’s degree in computer science and is an engineer, seemed amazed at the technology that allowed him to talk to the President on a different plane:

The Vice President is speaking to the President in his office on Air Force Two and he says Greg, the President wants to speak to you. So I put on the headset and a microphone and here I am on Air Force Two talking to the President on Air Force One.

HANOI JANE:

Tim Weiss of Bozeman penned a letter to the editor recently that caught my attention.

Weiss says a currently televised “anti-Bullock-for-Senate” ad contains a Vietnam War veteran (thank You for your service, sir) suggesting that he cannot support Steve Bullock, as “Hanoi Jane(Fonda)” has donated to Gov. Bullock’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.

By the way, Fonda has apologized a few times for what she did. That’s just a fact that is mostly overlooked. Some veterans cannot forgive her and that is their right.

The letter goes on about Trump being a draft dodger.

When I read the letter, I wondered what the Vietnam veteran in the campaign commercial thinks of Donald Trump calling former POW John McCain a loser and about the reports that Trump called service members who died in combat “losers” and “suckers.”

I see that Daines, who has never served, has enlisted the help of former Navy Seal Robert J. O’Neill in one of his campaign commercials. O’Neill claims he killed Osama bin Laden. I wonder what he thinks of Trump’s view of servicemembers.

By the way, Osama bin Laden was killed during the Obama/Biden administration.

ONE MORE THING:

I’ve always felt safe in Montana. It’s mostly because I am highly armed and live in a bunker stocked with guns, ammo, and Vienna sausages.

It’s also because the “Zombie Outbreak Response Team” is looking out for me:

Have a great Wednesday.

  1. Robert O’Neill also got himself banned from Delta airlines for not wearing a mask after he took a photo of himself declaring “I’m not a pvssy” that showed a guy in a USMC hat wearing a mask behind him.

You’d think he’d have learned some things after his run-ins with chemical dependency issues, PTSD and the law.

But he’s a hidebound rightwingnut, they still believe that tax cuts pay for themselves, even after 40 years of failure.
