Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:
- Post Office Boxes
- Fake Story Time
- Democratic National Convention
- Back To Session
POST OFFICE BOXES:
Thanks to U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) paused its removal of mail collection boxes in towns across Montana.
The Post Office collection boxes may become extinct all across the fruited plains in an attempt by President Trump to suppress voting by mail.
Luckily for me, I was recently able to snap a photo of a possibly soon to be an extinct box on my early morning walk in Great Falls, Montana. Take a look:
It just stood there, kind of unflappable in the dawn of the early morning. I did not try to touch it.
As I walked away I muttered, “All Post Office boxes matter.”
Thankfully there are elected officials like Tester fighting for these blue beauties.
FAKE STORY TIME:
The lamebrains on the right are posting stories that say something like this:
Democratic U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris once said that if elected president, she would issue an executive order to send police to the homes of anyone who did not surrender their guns.
One of the major problems with posts like the one above is that the people posting it are uneducated and never had to cite a source to save their asses.
There are several fact check sites that discredited the post. Here is what the Associated Press (AP) reported:
False. Social media posts circulating recently don’t accurately convey what Harris said. She said if elected president, she would wait 100 days for Congress to enact reasonable gun safety laws and if they failed to do so, she would take executive action. Harris clarified that her intention was not to confiscate legally owned guns.
The folks posting these fake stories are the ones that said Barack Obama was going to come and take our guns. Eight years passed and I still have the same number of guns I had when he was sworn in.

2020 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION:
In case you forgot, the 2020 Democratic National Convention starts today (August 17) and ends Thursday, August 20.
This convention will be unique, to say the least.
Most events from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET every night will be televised or streamed. Click HERE for information.
The website for the convention can be found HERE.
BACK TO SESSION:
NBC News reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday she is calling lawmakers back to session this week to vote on a bill that would bar changes to the U.S. Postal Service amid fears over delayed ballots.
Nancy, Nancy, Nancy…
While this is a nice way to get some attention, the Democrats have the majority in House, but the bill will go nowhere in the Republican-controlled Senate. The President, a Republican, would never sign it.
Now if the House wants to haul the Postmaster General in for questioning, that would be some great TV.
Other than that, all members of the House and Senate should enjoy recess while their constituents starve and are homeless.

This is definitely worth two minutes of your time.
