EMERSON COLLEGE POLL:

There was some good news for the Montana Republicans on Monday. All their boys are winning according to a new poll from Emerson College.

The Montana Emerson College poll was conducted July 31-August 2, 2020. The sample consisted of likely registered voters, n=584, with a Credibility Interval (CI) similar to a poll’s margin of error (MOE) of +/-4 percentage points.

Trump is beating Biden 53%-42%. Trump is expected to easily win Montana.

Daines is beating Bullock 50%-44% in the U.S. Senate contest. A few weeks ago, Public Policy Polling had Bullock leading 46%-44%. In that poll, there were 1,224 registered voters polled.

In the Governor’s race, Emerson shows Gianforte beating Cooney 50%-42%. Public Policy Polling had Gianforte up 46%-42%.

The last 90 days or so will be a rollercoaster ride for both sides. As with all polls, the Emerson one is just a snapshot of how people felt about a candidate on a certain date. It does give some momentum to those ahead; it also gives those trailing a notice that they need to work harder.

NEVADA:

The state of Nevada made President Donald Trump mad. The state legislature approved sending ballots via mail to all registered voters and the governor signed it into law Monday night. (ABC News)

Trump fired off a Tweet when he heard that the bill was passed by the legislature:

In an illegal late night coup, Nevada’s clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state. Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation. Using Covid to steal the state. See you in Court! 

Remember this is the guy who thinks there’s a difference between voting by mail and absentee voting.

We’ve seen this plan before. With the coronavirus Trump made his followers believe it was a hoax and no big deal. Trump would not lead by wearing a mask and probably caused more deaths. He routinely disagrees with the medical and scientific experts.

Now he knows he is losing this race and will be calling the election a fraud and a scam through Election Day and afterward.

Good for Nevada – other states should follow their lead. Voting by mail is safe and secure, especially during this pandemic.

2020 CENSUS:

NPR is reporting that U.S. Census Bureau is ending all counting efforts for the 2020 census on Sept. 30, a month shorter than previously announced, the bureau’s director confirmed Monday in a statement. That includes critical door-knocking efforts and collecting responses online, over the phone and by mail.

You can bet that this is being done to help the Trump Administration in some way.

With the announcement, NPR reported:

With roughly 4 out of 10 households nationwide yet to be counted and already delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the bureau now has less than two months left to try to reach people of color, immigrants, renters, rural residents and other members of historically undercounted groups who are not likely to fill out a census form on their own. 

The people of color and immigrants are exactly the people Republicans don’t want to be counted.
