Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Surround yourself with people who talk about visions and ideas, not other people. – Akin Olokun

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • Bullock’s Big Haul
  • Trump’s Hatred
  • If You Love America…
  • One More Thing

BULLOCK’S BIG HAUL:

The Associated Press is reporting that Montana Gov. Steve Bullock’s campaign said Monday that it raised $7.7 million in the second quarter of 2020. The Democrat’s bid against Republican incumbent Sen. Steve Daines has emerged as a critical race in the fight for control of the U.S. Senate.

MTN News reported that the $7.7 million raised during the three-month period ending June 30 was a record single-quarter haul for a Senate candidate in Montana.

This is great news for Bullock. Daines has been hitting the emails asking for help so we’ll see how much it has helped him when he releases his fundraising totals. I’m thinking it will be less than Bullock.

Nonetheless, each candidate will have plenty of money to get their message out to the voters.

TRUMP’S HATRED:

Early Monday morning President Donald Trump tweeted this:

Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!

The President is getting desperate. His approval rating is around 38% and with about four months left before the election, he’s starting to see the writing on the wall.

The NASCAR issue with Bubba Wallace was not a hoax. Standing up for Wallace and banning a racist flag from their events did not cause low ratings.

Trump lies every day.

Trump’s tweet was racist. Are there any Republicans who have the guts to stand up to Trump? How can Republicans look at themselves in a mirror if they do not stand up to Trump?

Here in Montana, we have a couple of Republicans who worship Trump: U.S. Senator Steve Daines and U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte. Shame on them.

IF YOU LOVE AMERICA…

On Monday I happened to see a post on Facebook from a devoted Trump supporter. The post was a photo (like this one) with the caption:

If You Love America
Save Her
Vote Republican Nov 6

Maybe that worked well in 2018 when the election was held on November 6, but Election Day 2020 is November 3.

Psst, let’s keep it a secret…

ONE MORE THING:

As many of you know, I am a life-long Chiefs fan, so this made me smile…

The Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, the team announced Monday. League sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal is worth $450 million over the 10-year period and could be worth up to $503 million. The extension includes a $140 million injury guarantee, as well as a no-trade clause. (ESPN)

That is the richest contract in pro sports according to CBS Sports – at least for today.

Mahomes deserves the pay. Let’s go!

  1. I will not vote for President Trump or anyone who supports him. The choice is simple. It is not about politics : save our system as messy and faulty as it is.
No player is deserving of that much money playing a dangerous game that could or should be banned.
