Tuesdays Quick Hits

Coming to you, Coronavirus free, from deep inside an underground bunker in Montana that is also the worldwide headquarters of The Western Word.

Here are the topics for today:

  • Montana Air National Guard
  • Tenth Democratic Debate
  • One More Thing

MONTANA AIR NATIONAL GUARD:

When I think of our current Congressional delegation, here are the first things that come to mind:

  • As for our senior U.S. Senator, Jon Tester, I think about veterans and farming.
  • As for our junior U.S. Senator, Steve Daines, I think about his undying support for Donald Trump.
  • As for our only U.S. Representative, Greg Gianforte, I think about assault and his undying support of Donald Trump.

Sadly, I don’t think about any of the three as a strong supporter of Montana’s military. Of the three, Tester is at least ahead of the other two.

The Great Falls Tribune, which also does not cover Montana’s military very well these days, reported that Montana Governor Steve Bullock called on Montana’s two Republican congressional members to intervene with the Trump administration’s plans to use funds appropriated for upgrading the Montana Air National Guard C-130 fleet for a border wall.

It’s a sad state of affairs that Trump is even able to do this. If the Montana National Guard loses its C-130s I don’t think there won’t be future aircraft missions in Montana. In my humble opinion, the C-130s are at the bottom of the barrel anyway.

If you want to know how much the Montana delegation supports military flying missions, read the columns I’ve written over the years about the “Powder River Training Complex” and columns about “Montana’s Skies are Closed.” You can search for the columns from The Western Word home page (upper right corner).

TENTH DEMOCRATIC DEBATE:

Tonight is the tenth Democratic Debate. This one is in South Carolina. CBS News and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute will host this one. It starts at 6:00 p.m. Montana time. (Wiki)

There will be seven candidates participating: Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Michael Bloomberg, and Tom Steyer.

A poll that I frequently participate in has asked me to watch the debate and take part in a CBS sponsored poll afterward. It should be fun!

Since it appears Bernie Sanders is the front-runner, I expect the other six people to go after him. I think the old Democrats are worried about Sanders actually winning the nomination.

There are reports that Russia wants a Sanders/Trump matchup because they believe Sanders would be easiest to beat.

Can you imagine a Sanders/Trump contest? The extreme supporters on the right and left would start a civil war.

ONE MORE THING:

I saw a meme yesterday and it made me laugh…

The next time someone asks Bernie Sanders how he plans to pay for “Medicare for All” he should say, “Mexico will pay for it” because that worked for Trump’s wall.
