Welcome to the big column to end the week, “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, welcome! CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!

BASEMENT BLOGGER:

After the Democrats from the House Intelligence Committee released their impeachment report the Washington Examiner reported that White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said the following:

“At the end of a one-sided sham process, Chairman Schiff and the Democrats utterly failed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing by President Trump,” Grisham said. “This report reflects nothing more than their frustrations.”
“Chairman Schiff’s report reads like the ramblings of a basement blogger straining to prove something when there is evidence of nothing,”

As I sit here in my basement (bunker) writing my blog post, the cruel words like “the ramblings of a basement blogger” cut into me like a knife.

Not really.

The first thing I thought when I heard Grisham’s statement was to wonder if she was drinking again. According to several reports, she “has a pair of drunk driving collars on her rap sheet.” (Smoking Gun)

As a “basement blogger” since 2005 and with several years of writing about and being involved in politics, I think I can compete with many of the journalists who cover politics. So hell yes I am a basement blogger, and, unlike Grisham, I have ZERO DUI charges on my record!

I guess that prevents me from working for Trump.

NANCY PELOSI PRAYS:

During her weekly press conference on Thursday, a reporter angered Pelosi. Here is how USA Today reported it:

Pelosi had just finished her weekly press conference Thursday and was walking away from the lectern when Sinclair Broadcast Group reporter James Rosen shouted the question: “Do you hate the president?”

USA Today then reports that Pelosi stopped, pointed at him and said, “I don’t hate anybody. We don’t hate anybody. Not anybody in the world. Don’t accuse me.”

I thought it was funny. But the big news for the people on the far right was when Pelosi said the following:

“I don’t hate anyone. I was raised in a way that is a heart full of love and always pray for the president. And I still pray for the president. I pray for the president all the time.” (NY Post)

The far-right folks and evangelicals probably spilled their lattes when they heard that Pelosi prays. Many on that side of the fence believe Pelosi is the devil and that Democrats don’t believe in God or pray.

I don’t hate Trump, either. I also pray for him frequently. I just think he is a liar and a con artist.

JOE BIDEN – FIGHTER:

I’m not sure if someone spiked the drinks of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, but they seemed a little pissed off on Thursday.

CNBC reported that Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden on Thursday calls a man in Iowa a “damn liar” and “fat” and “too old to vote for me” after the man accuses Biden of getting his son Hunter a job with a Ukrainian gas company.

CNBC also reported that the former vice president then challenged the man — who had also questioned Biden’s fitness for the White House given his age — to feats of strength, endurance and intelligence. “I’m not sedentary,” said the 77-year-old Biden. “You want to check my shape on, let’s do push ups together, let’s run, let’s do whatever you want to do, let’s take an IQ test.”

I’m excited about the chance of Biden and Donald Trump being on the same debate stage together saying stupid shit.

POLL RESULTS FCS PLAYOFFS:

Earlier this week I asked readers “Which team (Bobcats or Grizzlies) will go further in the 2019 FCS Football Playoffs?”

Both teams play Saturday at 1:00 Montana time.

• BOBCATS: 44%
• GRIZZLIES: 36%
• TIE/SAME: 20%

MELISSA ROMANO:

It’s been a tough week for the Democratic state superintendent of public instruction candidate Melissa Romano.

It was reported in the Helena IR and other news sources that Romano’s husband, Eric Lehman, is facing a felony charge of criminal possession of dangerous drugs after an Aug. 31 traffic stop led a Montana Highway Patrol trooper to discover a variety of illicit drugs in his unregistered vehicle.

It was also reported that Lehman is a former Helena elementary school teacher.

Since the August 31 traffic stop until this week it was a secret. That gave them time to prepare. Romano issued a statement on Tuesday about the situation via Twitter. You can read it HERE.

I’m not sure how this will affect the election in 2020 – that’s a long way down the road. You can bet some group will try to use it in a mailer or ad.

I still like Romano. I voted for her in the last election.
