Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:
- Bullock for President
- Trump & Ukraine
- Loserville
- One More Thing
BULLOCK FOR PRESIDENT:
It appears that Montana Governor and Presidential candidate Steve Bullock is now sitting at 1% in a recent poll that asked likely Iowa 2020 Democratic caucusgoers, “Which one of the following Democrats would be your first choice for president?” (Des Moines Register)
That’s probably a kick in the pants for Bullock who seems to be placing all his eggs in the Iowa Caucus basket. The Iowa Democratic caucuses will take place on Monday, February 3, 2020. By the way, that’s the day after my Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
Before Team Bullock pops the cork though, the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.0 percentage points.
The same poll showed Elizabeth Warren leading Joe Biden by two points.
Team Bullock sent a fundraising email on Sunday with the subject “incompetent mobster” that had the following pitch:
Donald Trump reportedly urged the Ukrainian President to dig up dirt on a political opponent’s family not once, not twice, but 8 times.
This is behavior you’d expect from an incompetent mobster, not the President of the United States.
We need to make sure Donald Trump is a one-term President. That’s we need to rally behind the only candidate in the race who’s actually won a Trump state: Steve Bullock. He’s won the kinds of places we need to win back to beat Trump.
Maybe Bullock is gaining a little traction.
TRUMP & UKRAINE:
Reuters and several others covering the President are reporting that U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he discussed Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden and his son in a call with Ukraine’s president.
This stemmed from a Washington Post report last week that said a whistleblower in the intelligence community filed a complaint about Trump’s interaction with a foreign leader. Some reports say Trump had pressured Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Biden’s son Hunter Biden during a July call. (The Hill)
According to Reuters, Trump told reporters:
“The conversation I had was largely congratulatory, with largely corruption, all of the corruption taking place and largely the fact that we don’t want our people like Vice President Biden and his son creating to the corruption already in the Ukraine.”
CBS News reported the exchange this way:
“The conversation I had was largely congratulatory, with largely corruption, all of the corruption taking place and largely the fact that we don’t want our people like Vice President Biden and his son [contributing] to the corruption already in the Ukraine.”
This issue seems to be getting traction.
LOSERVILLE:
On Sunday, the Kansas City Royals joined three other Major League Baseball (MLB) teams in losing at least 100 games. The other teams are the Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles, and the Detroit Tigers. (ESPN)
The Royals lost 104 games last season. They still have the same manager. I expect that to change at the end of the season. Their fans deserve better.
On the other end, the Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros all have won at least 100 games.
The season ends Sunday, September 29. Postseason baseball begins on October 1.
ONE MORE THING:
The first day of autumn begins today (Monday, September 23) and ends on December 21.
I read somewhere that autumn starts at 7:50 UTC, (Coordinated Universal Time). If my research skills are correct, that is 1:50 a.m. Montana time.
Have a great week!
It was just Joe Biden that wanted the incompetent Ukrainian corruption investigator fired.
“Reforming Ukraine’s graft-ridden law enforcement institutions was at the top of the country’s western backers’ agenda in the years following the 2014 EuroMaidan revolution. Then-chief prosecutor Viktor Shokin was widely seen as refusing to investigate any cases of high-level corruption and came to represent one of the biggest obstacles towards establishing rule of law.
Calls for Shokin’s removal dominated news coverage of Ukraine for months in 2016, as the IMF and EU threatened to withhold financial support from the country if he stayed in the job.”

Trump, as usual, is trying to flip the facts on their head to deflect from his own corruption and abuse another government to smear the political opponent he fears the most.

It *wasn’t* just
I for a long time didn’t think the democrats should start impeachment against Trump but with this last Trump act going after Biden using Oval Office I don’t see what they have to lose. All the republicans but Romney are hiding in hall closets of US capital like they are be hunted down by the bogeyman that would be of course Donald J.Trump. I realize impeachment
goes no where in Senate. But somehow the democrats need to get into the news cycle as no matter what Trump does good, bad or nothing he is such a master of leading the news cycle. He and his sycophants have already turned what he did with Ukraine president into positive for him and negative for Biden. Trump is the crook that robs you but get a medal for not getting caught. I just am amazed how Hannity ,Ingraham and Tucker Carson will twist themselves into pretzels nightly to support Trump lies. Yes I watch them because you know what Trump will do in a day or two. I often wonder what life holds for them post Trump. Yes I was once a republican.
Thanks Dennis. It’s amazing how far the Republicans have fallen. -JmB
