The Judge & the Dog:

An update to a story I mentioned last Monday…

The long local nightmare is over – Cascade County District Judge John Parker’s dog has been found alive.

I guess now the city police and sheriff’s office can go back to regular patrols and the local media can stand down.

Friday afternoon (March 1) news broke in Great Falls (MT) that Cascade County District Judge John Parker was missing. That news brought out a significant response from local authorities, which was the correct thing to do considering Parker’s position as a judge. It was later reported that Parker was looking for his dog and was caught in inclement weather.

I’m thinking the dog probably figured out that being owned by a local judge is a pretty good deal. The grass is pretty green in the Fox Farm area of Great Falls (when there are not 30 inches of snow on it).

One of the more silly things I saw in the reporting of the dog being found alive was that the Great Falls Tribune posted it as “Breaking News” on their website with a red banner.

Seriously, Tribune – this was red banner breaking news?

Even the Associated Press (AP) picked up the story from KFBB-TV and reported it on the wire. KFBB, the ABC/Montana station, called it breaking news. U.S. News & World Report picked up the AP story and posted it on their website.

Beam me up…

Donald & Ann:

In case you missed it, President Trump lashed out at conservative pundit Ann Coulter on Saturday, labeling her a “Wacky Nut Job” and insisting he was “winning on the Border” despite opposition from a hostile Democratic Party. (Fox News)

Trump tweeted on March 9:

Wacky Nut Job @AnnCoulter, who still hasn’t figured out that, despite all odds and an entire Democrat Party of Far Left Radicals against me (not to mention certain Republicans who are sadly unwilling to fight), I am winning on the Border. Major sections of Wall are being built…

I don’t think Trump should take on Coulter. Her thoughts about the border are shared by many on the far right. She can handle him with one arm tied behind her back.

Coulter has said that Trump is “the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.” She also said that in regard to the Trump border wall promise, “It’s crazy that I expect a president to keep the promise he made every day for 18 months.”

Note to Donald – Don’t mess with Ann…

Signing Bibles:

President Donald Trump visited Alabama on Friday to see firsthand the destruction and meet with people who were hit by tornadoes recently.

As he was meeting with people, he signed some of their Bibles.

Some folks went ballistic over that. Others say it is fine. The Associated Press has the story HERE.

I own several Bibles and none were signed by anyone, although some do list who gave me the Bible and the date it was presented. As you thumb through my Bibles, there are plenty of places where I have left notes or underlined things and even highlighted a few spots. It’s always fun to go through them and see what I was thinking.

I have no problem with Trump signing their Bibles. These people lost most everything, so to have their Bible signed by the President is just a small act that might bring them some comfort.

This is a nothingburger.

I do have a problem when elected officials and candidates sign the U.S. Flag. I don’t believe they should be doing that and the Flag Code (USC Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8 (g)) backs that up:

The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

  1. In signing the Bibles we see that there is still no evidence that he has ever actually opened one.
