Caught My Eye…

Freedom, well, that’s just some people talking. Your prison is walking through this world all alone. – Glenn Frey/Don Henley “Desperado”

Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics that I am providing commentary about today include Republicans smelling blood in Senate race, The Western Word Poll, the “Too Many Years” hypocrisy, Sean Hannity, and One More Thing!

Smelling Blood:

Many Republicans smell the blood in the water in regard to U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and his takedown of former VA Secretary nominee Ronny Jackson.

Tester, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Veterans Affairs committee, claims to have uncovered some very negative things about Jackson. After the disclosure, Jackson withdrew from consideration.

I tweeted back then and still believe that if I were Ronny Jackson and the information Tester uncovered about me was not true, the last thing I would do is withdraw. I would fight it.

President Trump tweeted that Jon Tester should resign. Debra Lamm, Chair of the Montana Republican Party, has sent at least two emails saying, “I absolutely agree with President Trump – Senator Tester should resign!”

One of the Republicans running for the nomination to take on Tester, Matt Rosendale, sent out a fundraising email saying, “His dishonest smear campaign against Adm. Ronny Jackson, who had enjoyed wide bipartisan respect and support for his service as the White House, was absolutely DISGRACEFUL.”

There’s at least one campaign ad running against Tester that brings up the Ronny Jackson nomination. At least one official from the White House has been on Montana radio talking about the issue.

Montanans may get to see Donald Trump himself campaign against Tester later this year.

Jon Tester won’t resign. He does not need the attention this close to election day. The best thing for Tester is it is still six months until election day 2018. On the other hand, that is bad news for the Republicans that it is so far away.

Meanwhile, Tester gave his first televised interview to MTN News yesterday after the Ronny Jackson issue and used one of his favorite campaign props, his tractor, as the background. Watch the interview HERE.

TWW Poll:

I posted a new poll yesterday asking my faithful readers:

With President Trump going after U.S. Sen. Jon Tester over the VA Secretary issue, does that make you more or less likely to vote for Tester this November?

Take the poll by clicking HERE.

Results will be released next week.

Too Many Years?

One of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Matt Rosendale’s contentions is Jon Tester has been in Washington too long. In a recent fundraising email, Rosendale writes:

Jon Tester may have had the best of intentions at one point. But 12 years in as Montana’s U.S. senator, it’s clear he has become a major part of the problem in Washington.

What turns me and many others off about politics is the hypocrisy in that sentence. If Tester was a Republican, like Rosendale, that 12 years would be fine. It’s always when it’s the other party member who has racked up some years (and seniority) that the other side says he has gone Washington.

The sad fact is Montana does not have much clout in Washington these days. It’s very little clout compared to when Max Baucus and Conrad Burns were Montana’s senators.

Sean Hannity:

I watched the first 10-15 minutes of Hannity’s show on Fox News last night. It was after the night that he spent most of the show interviewing Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. Some in the media think that Rudy hurt Trump with his interview, but we’ll see.

I discovered something watching Hannity. Sean Hannity claims he is correct in his reporting and views all the other channels that do the news as “fake news.” According to Hannity that includes CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and his most hated station, MSNBC.

Hannity also considers special counsel Robert Mueller the enemy.

I actually miss Hannity and Colmes – at least two sides were presented and discussed back then. That’s not the case today.

One More Thing:

May The 4th Be With You – Happy Star Wars Day!

  1. The Steele dossier (that Hannity would love to bury) concluded that Donald Trump is vulnerable to blackmail especially because of his sexual liaisons. Looks like the Stormy Daniels affair, whether it happened or not, confirms the dossier conclusion. Trump will pay off anyone threatening to release a tawdry story about him. Stormy Daniels got $130,000. How many others will line up for their share? If Trump runs out of funds, well there’s always the U.S. Treasury.

    • Carole – I imagine there will be more. Thanks, -JmB

  2. Doug – Old Neal Cavuto better watch out or Trump will attack him. -JmB
