The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain. – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Topics that I am providing commentary about today include best of the Montana Blogs for 2017, #Montana tweets for 2017, the sheriff, fake news, and one more thing!
Best of the Montana Blogs, 2017:
Over at The Montana Post, Don Pogreba has compiled a list of some of the best posts written on Montana blogs in 2017.
Check it out HERE.
2017 in #Montana tweets:
Once again this year @TheWesternWord did not make the list, there are still quite a few funny tweets about Montana in the list compiled by Great Falls Tribune.
Check it out HERE.
I will try harder in 2018. I promise.
Sheriff Bob Edwards:
Congratulations to Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards for being the #4 top story in North Central Montana for 2017. The Great Falls Tribune reports:
Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards was arrested on charges of pushing a woman into a TV stand at a Helena hotel on June 15 while attending the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers annual convention.
Off-duty law enforcement officers reported the incident to local police, saying “a woman could be heard yelling about a gun” and they “heard her screaming about male throwing her into TV.” The complainant reported that “a man (later identified as Edwards) put the gun in his mouth.”
The Helena City Attorney’s Office eventually announced it reached a deferred prosecution deal in which Edwards, who took an extended leave after the incident, must abide by a set of conditions for six months in order for the charges to be dropped.
I think Edwards should have resigned. I also think he should have answered questions from the local press about the incident.
If you are like me, then you have friends or family on Facebook that post a lot of fake news stories. I guess the folks at BuzzFeed News have the same problem!
BuzzFeed News has posted “50 Of The Biggest Fake News Hits On Facebook In 2017.” Enjoy.
You might want to pass it on to Uncle Joe or Cousin Eddie – or other relatives and friends who spread fake news…
One More Thing:
Texas Longhorn football coach Tom Herman was seen mocking Missouri quarterback Drew Lock on the sidelines late in the Texas/Missouri football game this week. Texas was winning the game easily and a lot of people on Twitter (like me) thought the mocking was uncalled for. I also thought running up the score was cheap when the win was easily at hand.
Lock was the adult here and responded like an adult when asked about it.
As for me, not so much. I posted the following on Twitter:
Maybe #Texas @CoachTomHerman will grow up this off season. Lone Star #Douchebag
Herman probably won’t last long at the University of Texas. Morons don’t.
