The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs. – Charles de Gaulle
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Topics that I am providing commentary about today include Trump & Obamacare, Gianforte’s Mugshot, Life is a Highway (Sign), Eminem’s Freestyle, Trump & Weinstein, ALCS/NLCS, and One More Thing!
Trump & Obamacare:
Last night it was reported that the Trump Administration will end key payments to insurers selling ObamaCare plans. (The Hill)
This action, if allowed, will harm millions of low-income Americans by increasing costs and could force many insurers to leave the market.
Many are calling the Trump’s action sabotage. It’s a terrible way to try to kill Obamacare because it harms the very people who need healthcare the most.
Click HERE to read what U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.) had to say about the move.
There will be lawsuits for sure. Congress may actually have to work together to strengthen healthcare.
Working together to make healthcare better sounds like a good idea.
The long wait is finally over! Color me disappointed.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that Gallatin County District Judge Holly Brown on Wednesday ordered the release of a mugshot of U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte taken after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a reporter on the eve of the special election that put him in office.
For some silly reason, the folks in Gallatin County felt they should not release the mugshot. The AP reported that County Attorney Marty Lambert had refused to release the image without a court order, arguing the photo taken on Aug. 25 was confidential criminal justice information.
Well, you got your court order, Marty. It’s silly and an embarrassment to Montana for you to withhold the information that should be public. Lambert should probably find new employment.
What was really funny is the “mugshot” does not look like a “mugshot.” There is no date or inmate information or Gallatin County Detention Center or anything to distinguish it from a selfie. Gianforte looks pretty freaking happy for a booking photo.
How in the heck will people dress like “inmate Gianforte” for Halloween…
Life is a Highway (Sign):
It was nice to see my former boss, the late U.S. Senator Conrad Burns, get some recognition in Billings. A sign proclaiming the Conrad Burns Memorial Highway will mark the portion of Highway 3 that runs from Main Street, near MetraPark, up to the Billings Logan International Airport.
The Billings Gazette has the story HERE.
Burns served three terms in the U.S. Senate. His tireless work on bringing federal dollars to Montana for things like the military, agriculture, higher education, and technology, will never be matched.
Eminem’s freestyle during the BET Hip Hop Awards garnered quite a bit of action on Twitter all across the fruited plains. Check out the story from CNN HERE.
But we better give Obama props
‘Cause what we got in office now’s a kamikaze
That’ll probably cause a nuclear holocaust
Eminem closes it with his “drawing in the sand a line” remark:
I’m drawing in the sand a line: you’re either for or against
And if you can’t decide who you like more and you’re split
On who you should stand beside, I’ll do it for you with this:
The rest of America stand up
We love our military, and we love our country
But we f**king hate Trump”
Maybe it’s just me, but I think there’s a serious divide between President Trump and the younger folks in America…
Trump & Weinstein:
Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt talked to the Huff Post about the reports of sexual harassment allegations waged against producer Harvey Weinstein and he pointed out that they ring eerily similar to the accusations that surrounded Donald Trump during the 2016 election:
“You know, how weird must it be to be a woman and hear all the stuff about Harvey Weinstein this week,” Oswalt said. “Then you flash back to last year and go, we literally heard this exact same shit about our president and we elected him anyway.”
Funny how that worked out, huh?
The Huff Post reports that more than a dozen women have accused Trump of sexual assault. Read the whole story HERE.
The final four in Major League Baseball is set. It’s the New York Yankees versus the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series (ALCS). It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series (NLCS).
Which two teams will be in the World Series?
You can see the schedule for the games HERE. Yankees/Astros begin tonight (Friday). The ALCS will be televised on FS1 or Fox. Dodgers/Cubs will start on Saturday. TBS will carry the NLCS games.
One More Thing:
Fear of Friday the 13th one of the most popular myths in science is called paraskavedekatriaphobia as well as friggatriskaidekaphobia. Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13. – Unknown
Have a great day!
