The Wednesday Read: Graham-Cassidy, Geography, Alabama, & Ryan

The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions. – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Today I provide independent commentary about the following items for this edition of The Wednesday Read:

  • Graham-Cassidy
  • Geography by Trump
  • Alabama Primary Runoff
  • GF Public Schools Board of Trustees

Graham-Cassidy:

In case you missed it, the Senate Republicans pulled the Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill because they did not have the votes for passage. Republicans have been trying to repeal Obamacare for seven years. It’s become comical.

Now would be a great time for Republicans and Democrats to come together and work on strengthening the current healthcare bill.

Geography by Trump:

It’s on an island in the middle of the ocean. It’s out in the ocean. You can’t just drive your trucks there from other states. – President Donald Trump (09/26/17)

The President was explaining where Puerto Rico is located during a joint press conference with President Rajoy of the Government of Spain.

Alabama Primary Runoff:

The incumbent candidate backed by President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell went down to defeat Tuesday night. Luther Strange lost to former Judge Roy Moore in the race to fill the seat once occupied by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

It was not that close. Moore was leading by 10 points according to the last results I saw.

Elected officials taking sides in contested primaries is one of the reasons there are so many problems in the two major parties.

Roy Moore will face Democrat Doug Jones on December 12.

GF Public Schools Board of Trustees:

I guess the naming of two new public elementary schools in Great Falls got a little personal for one school board trustee this week.

The Great Falls Tribune reported that trustee Don Ryan resigned after a failed bid to honor the late U.S. Senator Mike Mansfield by naming a school after him. After his resignation, Ryan said that he felt his “time could be better spent.”

How do I feel about Ryan’s resignation? “Don’t let the door…”

I’m sure there’s a Post Office somewhere that needs a name…
