Monday’s Quick Hits

We have, I fear, confused power with greatness. – Stewart Udall

Today’s quick hits deal with:

  • John McCain
  • Steve Daines
  • Ryan Zinke
  • Nothingburger

John McCain:

Over the weekend it was revealed that Republican U.S. Senator John McCain had surgery and would be spending the week recuperating at his home in Arizona. (Reuters)

With that announcement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement saying that the Senate “will defer consideration of the Better Care Act.”

That means McConnell needs every vote he can to pass the bill. McConnell better hope that other Republican “Yes” votes don’t get sick. There are several senators who are so old that they already have one foot in the grave…

Steve Daines:

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) has yet to say how he will vote on the Better Care Act, but it does not take a political scientist to determine Daines is probably a “Yes” vote.

Daines knows that he and his staff will feel the wrath of many Montanans for voting to do away with their health care so he wants to keep his constituents thinking he has an open mind. I think his mind was closed a year ago. He was going to vote to do away with ObamaCare no matter what.

Daines is not up for reelection until 2020, but the way he has handled the health care issue and town halls make him vulnerable – that is if the Montana Democrats can find the right candidate.

Ryan Zinke:

Although President Donald Trump’s approval ratings are historically low for a President’s first six months, his Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke, says that Trump is “the best boss I’ve ever worked for. He doesn’t micromanage.” (Capital Press)

Zinke wasn’t born yesterday. He understands that compliments will get him everywhere with Trump…

The Nothingburger:

In regard to the nothingburger that some have called Trump, Junior’s meeting with the Russians, we now know that at least eight people attended the meeting.

The Hill has the rundown of who attended HERE.

Who knows how many people were actually there. Heck, we may end up finding out that Donald Trump attended the meeting.

This “nothingburger” has plenty of meat…

  1. Prior to the Trump family meeting with Russians, candidate Donald announced he’d soon reveal dirt on Hillary Trump’s speech after the meeting was quite a let down for his base. By the way Nothing Burger. is a vulgar street term meaning “one night stand.” It makes my skin crawl to hear the good Christian women using it on Talk Radio as if it makes them someone in the know. But let’s hope the Office of the President and Donald Trump is the equivalent of a “one night stand.
