Caught My Eye…

My whole life is about winning. I don’t lose often. I almost never lose. – Donald Trump

Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)! This is the 335th CME!

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics that I am providing commentary on today include Daines & Warren, Trump travel ban, Trump comprehends, Kellyanne sells, most important problem, and much more!

Daines & Warren:

It did not take U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) long to use his “The Senator Will Take Her Seat” debacle as a fundraising tool. He had to strike before his 15 minutes of national fame runs out. On social media, it did not appear that Daines received much support for his actions.

So Thursday morning Daines’ campaign sent a fundraising email telling recipients:

Now, since I had the courage to stand up against the venomous attacks from liberals in the Senate, I’ve become the number one target for liberals across the nation. They are mounting an attack, and will be financed by liberal special interests that wish to see President Trump, his picks for his cabinet, and his agenda to “Make America Great Again” fail.

Of course, he then asks for money:

And, Friend, after you’ve added your name, I hope I can also count on your financial support. Since making my stand yesterday, the Left has vowed to do whatever they can to defeat me. Whether you can chip in $10, $25, $50, $100, or more today, every dollar will help us fight back and continue to step up!

Sure both sides try to raise money off of events and issues. That does not make it right and it’s part of the problem with politics these days.

One final thought about Daines and Warren. It was interesting that Warren was shut down from reading the 1986 letter from Coretta Scott King, but later in the day several other senators, mostly male, were allowed to read the same letter.

That made the Republicans look pretty small.

Trump Travel Ban:

Late Thursday afternoon Reuters reported that a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the Trump administration failed to offer any evidence that national security concerns justified immediately restoring the ban, which he launched two weeks ago. The Executive Order signed by the President temporarily banned people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Right after the decision was reached, Trump tweeted:

That tweet was kind of funny since Trump just lost in court…twice.

A few hours later the Republican National Committee sent an email urging people to sign a petition that says:

President Trump has called for a temporary restriction on people entering our country from nations compromised by radical Islamic terrorism.
It’s a commonsense, constitutional policy to keep our country safe.
But ever since President Trump signed it into law, the media has gone to extreme lengths to tear it to shreds and lie about it to the American people.
The media doesn’t want you to know that this commonsense policy is supported by a majority of Americans.
But with your help, we’ll gather enough signatures to show them that this national security policy is supported by the PEOPLE.

This case is headed to the Supreme Court – who knows what the outcome will be.

Trump Comprehends:

This week President Donald Trump spoke to the Major Cities Chiefs Association and talked about his travel ban executive order and judges. This part struck me as funny:

So there it is, folks. It’s as plain as you can have it. I didn’t — and I was a good student. I understand things. I comprehend very well, okay? Better than I think almost anybody.

Since Trump has been in office, the best times of the day are when he sends his early morning tweets and when his press secretary attempts to defend his policies during the White House press briefing.

Kellyanne Sells:

On Fox & Friends Thursday morning, Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, gave the President’s daughter some free advertising. The New York Times reports:

“Go buy Ivanka’s stuff is what I would say,” Ms. Conway, whose title is counselor to the president, said in an interview with Fox News. “I’m going to give a free commercial here: Go buy it today everybody, you can find it online.”

Later in the day White House press secretary Sean Spicer was asked about it and told reporters that Conway has been “counseled on that subject, and that’s it.” (CNN)

I thought I might get in on the free advertising so I sent a tweet asking Conway to give a free commercial.

So I have that to look forward to…

Most Important Problem:

So what is the most important problem facing the United States? Gallup asked that question and found that dissatisfaction with government was the highest on the list, followed by immigration, and coming in third was unifying the country.

I don’t think those issues will be settled anytime soon.

See the whole list HERE – and you thought you had problems…

One More Thing:

My one regret in life is that I am not someone else. – Woody Allen

  1. Daines and Warren: If she was right, she would have stayed at the podium and challage Rule 19, the fact that she did sit down tells me she knew she knew what she did. And she was painting Sessions as a racist, were the other two?

Conway will be lucky to get off with just a talking to…

    • Barry– I don’t see it that way. She was treated differently than the men. Thanks, -JmB

    • she did challenge. if you listen to the video you hear her ask to appeal the rule 19 invocation and then she was shut down and told to sit down.
