We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again. – Donald Trump
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Topics that I am providing commentary on today include Inauguration Day 2017, Trump’s first day, Obama’s Clemencies, Montana Cowgirl Blog, Hold My Beer & Watch This, One More Thing, and much more!
It’s Inauguration Day 2017 – a historic day! Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States. When he takes office the Republicans will control the White House, the U.S. House, and U.S. Senate. It’s the Republicans’ show for at least the next two years.
Trump’s First Day:
Later today Donald Trump may need to ice his arm. The reason is because he is planning to sign several executive orders on day one of this presidency. Reuters reports:
Donald Trump is preparing to sign executive actions on his first day in the White House on Friday to take the opening steps to crack down on immigration, build a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border and roll back outgoing President Barack Obama’s policies.
You can read more of the Reuters story HERE.
President Barack Obama was busy the last few days. The Washington Post reported:
…on Thursday, his last full day in office, Obama announced 330 more commutations, for nonviolent drug offenders, bringing his total number of clemencies to 1,715. He has granted commutations to more people than the past 12 presidents combined, including 568 inmates with life sentences. He has granted 212 pardons. His final group of clemencies was the most Obama granted in a day and the most granted on one day in U.S. history.
Lee Newspapers reports about Montanans who received commutations HERE.
I don’t really have a problem with Presidents giving pardons/clemencies. It’s one of the perks of the office. There are several reviews and lots of paperwork that goes into granting executive clemencies. Check out the website HERE.
Montana Cowgirl Blog:
I was saddened to read that Montana’s premier blog, the Montana Cowgirl, is under new management and being run by a “Cowboy” now:
The old administrators are no longer around so I stepped up. The name of the blog will not change, though you will note that posts from the administration of this blog will be under the name, Montana Cowboy, no longer are the original creators of this blog associated with it anymore.
Those will be big shoes to fill and I wish “Cowboy” the best of luck.
Maybe the “original creators” and “old administrators” were working for one of the Democrats who lost in the recent election or could not run due to term limits.
Nonetheless, I’ll miss the Cowgirl…
Hold My Beer & Watch This:
Republican State Representative Daniel Zolnikov of Billings has proposed legislation to change Montana’s open container law to allow passengers in a vehicle to drink alcohol. (Billings Gazette)
Lee Newspapers reported that Zolnikov listed several times when a passenger might want to drink while the driver does not, which he argued would not affect public safety: driving to a fishing hole, returning home from hunting, at the end of a community baseball game or hopping in the car to help a friend move something while setting up an event.
Lee Newspapers also reported that no one spoke in support of the bill – and no one should.
One More Thing:
To all my friends who are Democrats and are feeling a little down today:
The sun will come out tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow
There’ll be sun
