Monday’s Odds & Ends

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. – Vincent Van Gogh

Welcome to Monday!

Today is another one of those days in which there are several major stories out there that I want to comment about – so it’s another “Odds & Ends” day!

Today’s topics include:

  • Down Goes Wittich
  • Blackfeet Reservation Housing
  • Bumper Sticker Mania
  • White House & the French President

Down Goes Wittich:

You may have read that Montana State Representative Art Wittich, R-Bozeman, cheated in his 2010 election. Now it’s been proven in court. The Associated Press (AP) reported that a jury found Wittich took $19,599 worth of in-kind contributions that he didn’t disclose from organizations affiliated with the National Right to Work Committee during his 2010 primary election campaign.

The AP reported that the judge will decide any penalties against Wittich, from fines up to removal from office and as a 2016 legislative candidate. A date was not immediately set.

Wittich, who is an attorney, should have known better than to cheat. The judge should make an example of Wittich when he hands out punishment. After the judge hands out punishment, the Montana Bar Association should also review the case to determine if there has been any misconduct from Wittich.

People like Art Wittich have irreparably harmed elections in Montana.

A Must Read:

The Great Falls Tribune’s David Murray has written a story that was published in the Sunday paper titled “The crisis in our backyard: Montana’s reservation housing” where he takes a look at the housing crisis on the Blackfeet Reservation.

If ever a story deserved an award, this Tribune story is it. If ever an issue deserved immediate attention, this is it. Read it HERE.

Bumper Sticker Mania:

A few Fridays ago I wrote that I am always looking for free campaign bumper stickers (that does not mean I endorse you), so if you are offering them let me know via the official email of The Western Word ( and I’ll send you the mailing address to my bunker.

That offer continues and they may get posted here at The Western Word, which means free publicity for you!

The Western Word has now entered into bumper sticker mania:

TWW Bumper StickerIn the near future, I will announce ways to obtain a bumper sticker from Montana’s best independent blog. Please – no fighting or cutting in line for them. I will try to keep the price of these limited one-of-a-kind bumper stickers below $250.00.

White House & French President:

Several news organizations including the Daily Caller reported that The White House censored the video of French President Francois Hollande daring to argue that “Islamist terrorism” is at the “roots of terrorism.”

The official transcript was also censored.

Both were corrected a little later. The White House blamed it on a “technical glitch.”

First, has the United States ever really cared what the French had to say? A few years ago some people in our country would not use the words “French fries” but instead called them “Freedom fries.” We don’t care too much for the French here in the good old USA.

Second, the argument on whether it’s OK to say “Islamist terrorism” or “radical islamic terrorism” or not is just silly.

  1. White House & French President:
Brings to mind the Kid Rock song, Wasting time, “I was born at night, but not last night baby”!

  2. Nothing on the MT Dem Party selling themselves for $64,100, huh? What a pity.
