A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit. – Arnold H. Glasow
Hey kids – it’s time for another edition of Terrific News Tuesday!
In case this is your first time reading Terrific News Tuesday (TNT), this column is all about good news. I know it’s hard to believe, but I won’t be complaining or criticizing anyone or anything today – just writing about some terrific news that caught my attention!
Here is some of the good stuff in this edition of TNT:
- Great Falls Public Schools
- Yellowstone & Glacier National Parks
- Thank-You Party
- Virginia McLaurin
- Spring Training
Great Falls Public Schools:
The good news is that the Great Falls Public Schools Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a plan to spend $98.86 million over the next 10 years to address delayed repairs and significant upgrades proposed for nearly every public school in Great Falls. (GF Tribune)
It was also reported that there has not been any significant construction on the public schools in half a century, so these upgrades are very much needed.
Now it’s up to the voters in Great Falls to approve the plan.
Yellowstone & Glacier National Parks:
The Missoulian reported that Glacier National Park has set a new record for the second straight year with more than 2.3 million visitors in 2015, and Yellowstone National Park surpassed the 4 million-attendance mark for the first time ever.
That is great news for Montana’s tourism industry!
11-year-old Jeremie Bordua from Lansing, Michigan, was worried that police officers were not feeling appreciated, so he told his mom that for his next birthday, all he wanted was to throw a thank-you party for police.
CBS News reported that once word got out, more than a hundred officers responded. And not just from Lansing, but from all over the state of Michigan. Deputy James Revell drove there from Georgia. Watch/read the story HERE.
Big thanks to Jeremie for reminding us adults that we should thank those who protect us.
Virginia McLaurin turns 107 next month. CBS Evening News reported that she wanted more than anything to meet President Obama. So, she wrote to him — even offering to go to his house, if it would make it easier.
She was so excited to meet the president and first lady she started dancing — and so did they. The White House released a video of it and it’s very cute.
McLaurin, who is black, was asked what she thought was the best part of meeting the president and the first lady. She said, “I felt like I made it.” “I feel like I can die happy.”
Amen to that, Virginia. Amen to that.
The good news is that Major League Baseball teams started spring training in the past few days. They start playing spring training games next week. The regular season begins April 3. (MLB.com)
Also, the Kansas City Royals are World Series champs in case you forgot! Go Royals!
