MT House 2014: I Love Guns More Than You Do!

The Ryan Zinke campaign released a new 30-second ad yesterday called “Shoot.”

As you can imagine, this ad is about guns. Gun rights are important to many Montanans.

The ad begins with, “Ryan Zinke was a Navy Seal.” (I think I have heard this somewhere before), and then adds, “He appreciates firearms – a Montana tradition.” The voice in the ad then says “John Lewis took money from pro-gun-control advocates, let them campaign for him.”

The voice in the ad then states: “Ryan Zinke is Montana. John Lewis is a Washington insider who will join team Pelosi and fight to keep Obamacare.”

I did get a good chuckle or two from the ad. I was a little disappointed that the ad did not have Ryan Zinke saying something like, “As a Navy Seal I once shot the legs off a fly from 500 yards away.”

According to the Zinke campaign, the ad “shines a light on his opponent’s (John Lewis) close affiliation with anti-gun advocates from D.C.” The campaign also contends, “Lewis is misleading Montana voters by pretending to be pro-gun” and that “Lewis will vote with Nancy Pelosi and anti-gun advocate Steny Hoyer in D.C.”

As expected, the ad did not go over too well with the Lewis campaign. Just about two hours later, they fired off a press release saying the ad was “hypocritical and false” and “It’s time Zinke start shooting straight with the people of Montana and explain why he waffled on the 2nd Amendment…” You can read the press release from the Lewis campaign HERE.

According to the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) for this election, Republican Ryan Zinke has an A- rating and Democrat John Lewis has an AQ rating. The “AQ” rating is based solely on the NRA-PVF Candidate Questionnaire because the candidate does not have a voting record.

Most people who follow politics remember back when Barack Obama was running for President, pro-gun folks were worried that one of his first actions would be to confiscate our guns. Obama has been in office for about six years and his people either missed my house or the scare tactics about him taking our guns were false.

The bottom line is that Zinke and Lewis both have some issues that should concern pro-gun voters.

I give the Zinke “Shoot” ad a seven out of 10 (7/10). You can watch it HERE.
