The Sunday Message

I hope you had a great Independence Day and you were able to enjoy the day with family and friends.

As I was watching the fireworks high in the sky over the Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana, Friday night, I felt a sense of pride in our country. We may fight like cats and dogs sometimes, but when we need to we circle the wagons because we are Americans first.

Around this time of year I always try to read something about the Declaration of Independence or about the 56 men who signed it – kind of a refresher course.

Most of the signers were lawyers and merchants. There were two listed as clergymen, although there have been some arguments about how many signers had been involved in ministry.

My favorite line is, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We live in the greatest country on the face of the earth.

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” –Galatians 5:13
