The Anti-Christ

Several folks, especially those on the left, are upset that Republican U.S. House candidate Ryan Zinke called former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the “anti-Christ.”

Zinke’s remarks were first reported in the Bigfork Eagle. It was also reported that Zinke was speaking to “Republican partisans,” and that he handed out 50-caliber bullets to the sponsors of the event.

Is campaigning in Montana fun to follow or what?

While I believe that calling someone the anti-Christ is not appropriate, the folks who are so concerned about it should probably calm down just a little. There have been some “interesting” candidates throughout history in Montana, so my first thought was does Zinke actually believe Hillary Clinton is the anti-Christ?

Hillary Clinton may poll just a little above Barack Obama in Montana, so calling her the anti-Christ is like throwing red meat to the partisan wolves.

Remember, this is the same state where an “Obama Presidential Library outhouse” was paraded around. A Facebook post supposedly tied to a Montanan showed a photo of an Obama trap which was a watermelon under a box that was propped up by a stick with a string attached to it.

So calling Hillary Clinton the anti-Christ seems kind of tame – but it’s only February.

One point that was mentioned in the article was that only “about 30 people” attended the event, so the publicity from the article has probably helped Zinke with his base of support more than it hurt him.

While I don’t know Ryan Zinke from Ryan Seacrest, I do know the Republican primary for U.S. House is going to be crowded – three candidates have filed already – and there will surely be more to come. So the candidate who can get the most publicity that energizes the base has a good chance of winning the primary.

A friend from out of state asked me the other day who I thought would win the GOP primary. I told him that my best guess right now is that the race is between Cory Stapleton and Ryan Zinke.

One thing for sure, the GOP candidate who makes it out of that crowded primary has a very good chance of winning the seat in November.
