It’s Friday, so it is time for another edition of Caught My Eye! This weekly column takes a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week – sometimes with just a little sarcasm!
Here we are in the midst of the Christmas season! Like most men, my shopping has not started yet. I like to wait until about December 24 so it’s more of a challenge! Normally on Christmas Eve, we men hit the stores like we are getting ready to ascend Mount Everest and get all our shopping done in a few hours.
Then we come home and ask questions like, “Honey, where’s the tape?” or “Do we have wrapping paper?”
It’s not too late to get into the Christmas spirit. In the last couple of weeks, I attended some Christmas programs to get me in the spirit. The local school programs I attended were wonderful!
Also, there’s nothing like a walk through the local mall to get me in the Christmas Spirit – you can also scope out some items when you return on Christmas Eve to do your shopping…and sneak a peek inside Victoria’s Secret…
Don’t forget to give to those less fortunate this season. Times are tough so if you have a little extra this year, share it – buy some meals for folks at your local rescue mission, drop some cash in the red kettles, buy an extra toy and donate it to Toys for Tots. You’ll feel better for it!
Everybody deserves a nice Christmas!
So now, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s edition of Caught My Eye…
So long, Larry:
I have watched a lot of Larry King on CNN over the years and even heard him on late night radio many years ago. King’s last show was Thursday night. It was a neat show and the ending was very well done.
Congrats Larry, we’ll miss you! Although Hannity won the timeslot most nights, I watched your show a lot. Best of luck in the future!
Carroll College Football:
The Saints play in the NAIA National Football Championship game on Saturday. Sadly, it is being televised on an obscure channel called “CBS College Sports” that not many households receive (subscribe to) in the United States.
It’s too bad and kind of a slap in the face of Carroll College that most people won’t be able to tune into the game unless they subscribe to this channel or head to a bar. One would think a sharp advertising person from a local station would want to see the game televised on a local channel to be able to sell some local ads – and make some money…
Whatever!
The word “whatever” was voted most annoying word for 2010. “Like” was second and “you know what I mean” was third.
My teenager uses all three…
I thought maybe the most annoying word was “we.” As in the commercial with the little piggy crying we, weee, weeeee all the way home.
Whatever…
Extreme Moments of 2010:
Cool video. Click HERE.
You might be a redneck…
A man has created the American Redneck Society. Probably the next thing we hear will be Congress creating the Redneck Caucus. I know a couple people who could be the Chair…
Through rain, sleet, snow and in the nude…
A postal carrier in Wisconsin was arrested for delivering mail naked. His reason? To cheer up a woman on his route… Uh huh.
Festive Spirits!
Police confiscated a six-foot marijuana plant decorated as a Christmas tree at this old hippie’s home. Dude! It had a string of Christmas lights on it. There’s no word if there were flashing Christmas lights or if the police found any crumbs from brownies around the tree, or if the guy was singing, “Angels we have heard on high…”
Cold Feet?
The bride is suing the groom for $100,000. He called off the wedding about a week before the ceremony. Dirt bag. Watch the video with the story, too….
The Political Inbox:
-The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) sent me an e-mail with the subject, “Poetic.” They wrote, “Infuriated by Republican hypocrisy and obstruction? Here’s a creative outlet for your frustration: our DSCC poetry magnet. You can get one for a donation of $6, or two for a donation of $10 or more. Just think of all the fun phrases you can make with words like “Sarah Palin,” “Tea Party,” “Rush Limbaugh” and “Wrong.”
They go on, “Every magnet you buy helps elect Democrats, and boy, do we need to elect Democrats.”
-The Montana GOP followed up on their “Winterfest” e-mails with an e-mail about how great “Winterfest” was. It appears almost everyone who attended got to speak…
Twitter:
For the several hundred of you who follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed I changed my Twitter name to: TheWesternWord from JacktheBlogger. I changed it to reflect this blog.
Have a great week – The College Bowl Season starts Saturday! Don’t forget to stretch…
