If it’s Friday, then it’s time for “Caught My Eye” the weekly (almost award-winning) column where I take a look (sometimes with a little sarcasm) at some of the stories that I did not have time to comment about during the week.
This week I take a look at global warming, powerful women, a visit to the Guard, China, the IRS, and much more.
Since it’s Friday and not much work is getting done, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s look at the news…
Watch out if you’re not supporting the “global warming” 10-10 campaign. You can watch the video HERE. Be advised: It’s messy.
The Most Powerful Woman:
Sorry Tea Party folks, it’s not Sarah Palin. It’s Michelle Obama. Palin was ranked #16. You can see the whole list HERE.
Tester Visits Guard:
Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.) visited the Montana Air Guard and toured the “Hush House” on Thursday. Guard members told me that Tester would not shut up when he was in the Hush House.
The local media slurped it up as a real news story. Two TV stations, the local newspaper, and I heard a middle school newsletter sent reporters to cover the monumental event.
I heard a rumor from a friend at the Guard that Tester wanted to ride in an F-15. That did not happen. But my friend said with the guard maybe getting a new “transport” plane, Tester’s chances of catching a ride are probably better.
Those Guard folks are pretty funny…
Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) is not happy with all the money being spent by groups to elect Republicans, so he’s asked the IRS to investigate them. Most folks call that two-faced. Baucus should pay attention where he gets his donations and not worry about others. He’s returned several thousands of dollars over the years, like the money he raised in Jack Abramoff’s skybox.
Speaking of Max Baucus, he’s heading to China on a junket. He did his token visit to a few selected places in Montana, and now it’s off to China on the taxpayer’s dime. As Forrest Gump would say, “In the land of China, people hardly got nothing at all.”
I guess Baucus wants to see how our country will look in a few years and say hello to those who own much of our debt…
Gallup reports that the unemployment rate is 10.1% for September. The Government said this morning that it was 9.6% and that 95,000 jobs were lost in September.
Most readers will remember the Obama Administration with the help of the Democratic majority in Congress said that by spending a few gazillion dollars to stimulate us, the unemployment rate would never get above 8%.
How’s that working out for you?
Speaking of the stimulus, did you know that 89,000 stimulus payments of $250 each went to dead people and prisoners? Of that amount, 72,000 went to the dead people and 17,000 to inmates. You can read the story HERE.
Now, I understand why I did not get a check…
Don’t Fear the Reaper:
How about a “Happy Coffin” to spend eternity in? Sounds like a good plan to me. You can read the story HERE.
Sometimes even the littlest of things go bad. Maybe this is a sign of the times, but the President handled it very well. You can watch the video HERE.
Help with Sleep:
If you’re having problems going to sleep, CNN has a new show called Parker/Spitzer with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and columnist Kathleen Parker as co-hosts.
Hardly anyone watched it. Spitzer, as you may remember, was supplied with high-priced call girls. The “madam” who supplied Spitzer with the call girls said the new CNN show was about as boring as Spitzer was in bed.
What Women Want Expo:
This event is going on in Great Falls. Men should probably attend and get some answers because what women want is the biggest question we have…
Favorite Quote of the Week:
“You and Obama are a couple of peas in the pod.” That was a comment left about my “Ballot Issue” column in which I supported I-164.
The Western Word: “Independent Commentary about Politics, Sports, and Current Events.”
And last but not least, 10 Years:
Congratulations to David over at Greater Falls for 10 years of blogging. You can visit his website HERE. As the greatest rock band in the world sings, “Keep on rolling…” and thanks for the “link love” to The Western Word.
