The Invitation

The glossy 11″ by 6″ postcard I pulled from my mailbox said, “Join us for a lunch event and get an introductory look at the first Continuing Care Retirement Community in Great Falls.”

I opened the envelope and read the glossy flier that said, “Wanted 31 people to try new digital technology in hearing aids.”

The postcard and envelope were addressed to my dear old dad – with the correct first name, the correct middle initial and the correct last name. By the way, my full name is different than my father’s.

Sadly, my father has been dead since December 1996. Yes, 1996. I know this is true because I was there and watched the casket being closed. Continue reading
