Caught My Eye…

Almost every Friday since July 2010 I have posted a column called “Caught My Eye.” There are 228 of them.

This column is where I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm just to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little. Basically, nothing is off-limit – nothing!

Here are the top three “Caught My Eye” columns from 2014. Enjoy!

Politics: Hires & Fires

With the election season over in Montana, it’s time for the winners to put staff in place and for those already in office to shuffle staff around so they are ready for the new congress and able to assist Montanans.

There are over a million people Montana and 147,164 sq miles to cover. U.S. Senator Jon Tester, U.S. Senator-elect Steve Daines, and U.S. Representative-elect Ryan Zinke can’t do it alone so they need staffers who will represent them at meetings and assist constituents.

As a member of the U.S. House, Zinke will have fewer staff and offices than Tester and Daines. It’s not fair to Montanans, but Zinke’s “district” is all of Montana whereas a Representative in New York City may have a “district” that’s just a few square miles.

Here are some of the hires that caught my attention. Congrats to them.  Plus, I think there’s a job opening in Tennessee for a Communications Director…

Caught My Eye…

Thanks for stopping by to read “Caught My Eye” – the first one for May! Tighten your belts and let’s get started!

If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” is posted right here every Friday morning! This is when I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little.

Today I write about Political Practices and Cyndi Baker, Randy Vogel v. Ken Miller, the Missoula shooting, John Walsh – “Kennedy,” Elsie Arntzen – “We Can Do Better,” The Weather Channel, Sprint’s Framily plan, plus we have a winner who is Making Montana Proud!

A Waste of Time (and our money)

The State of Montana failed in its attempt to convict Randy Vogel of illegally killing an elk. He was found not guilty on three trumped up charges that were, in my opinion, politically motivated.

As I wrote back in March under the headline “This Smells” this will probably be another failed attempt by the Democrats in the state to get Vogel’s boss, Congressman Denny Rehberg – and it was.

Vogel was hired as Rehberg’s state director on March 1, 2010. Vogel received a ticket on March 3, 2010. The incident was alleged to have happened in November 2009.

It’s cheap and trashy politics to say the least. Too bad the Montana media does not see it for what it is. There must be some tears flowing at the Montana Democrats HQ and at the McDonald Campaign office this afternoon.

Political observers have to be wondering who or what will be next in this “get Denny” circus.
