Earlier this month the Great Falls Tribune Editorial Board found themselves in some hot water with readers because they ran an editorial cartoon by Gary McCoy about Planned Parenthood and its chief executive. You can see the cartoon HERE.
First of all, it is nice that the Tribune Editorial Board (I might start calling them “The Bored” or “The Boring”) created a little controversy in our sleepy little town of Great Falls, Montana. The weekly “free Barry Beach” letters are making me yawn.
I like it when the contents on the opinion page stir people in the community, but that does not happen enough in most Montana newspapers – they don’t like to make waves.
After the Tribune mentioned that the cartoon stirred some controversy from their readers, I had to go back and see it again to see what it was about. I did not particularly care for it. Some readers thought it was racist and I can see how they might interpret it that way.
Like most people, I wish there were fewer abortions, but abortions are legal. I also understand that abortions are a very small percentage of what Planned Parenthood does. They also provide valuable healthcare for women, men, and young people.
I wasn’t going to write about the cartoon or the Tribune Editorial Board, but yesterday I happened to catch the opinion in Sunday’s Tribune from three fellows who call themselves the “No Teams Team.” Read it HERE.
